CRB checks - how?

I am going to be taking someone on in a Mother's Help role. I'll be home when she is looking after the kids although I am sure that as time goes on if we all feel comfortable about it she will be taking them out to groups, one o'clock clubs etc.

Am thinking I should get a CRB check on this person but can't figure out how to do this as the government site suggests it is for organisations rather than individuals.

HAs anyone else done this themselves? If so HOW?

thanks

The person needing the check can request it themselves, it costs though. From what ive heard they only check the local records or something, so if you were commiting crimes 2 years before elsewhere it wouldnt show. Could be wrong though.

thanks charliecat - any idea how they go about requesting it? I am happy to pay for it if she does it...

Thats the number to ring, they will take the persons details and send them a lovely big form and ask for zillions of ID

thanks again charliecat, have you actually done this as an individual yourself?

i called the number myself just to find out what my minder would need to do and they said they don't take applications from individuals, that she would have to be applied for by an agency

what is this all about, surely an individual should be able to get a CRB check if they are to be looking after kids, without having to be on an agencies books?

Tell your new assistant to go to the local police station and ask for her criminal records. It costs 10.00 (Could be more as I done it 8 years ago) It takes a about 3 weeks and she will get it posted to her house. It's on watermarked paper and you will know that it's the real thing.
