First Aid for Childminders

Due to lots of changes and a very busy summer, and difficulty arranging my own personal childcare. I haven't booked onto a first aid course. I have contacted my local authority who have told me there are no spaces available ANYWHERE in my region for the rest of the year, and I can't book onto a spring course until October.

My first aid certificate is due to run out in November and I am due for an inspection at any time.

What is OFSTED views on this?

Felling a bit sick all of a sudden, as I know they generally mark with an inadequate if it has lapsed.

I'm sorry to tell you if ofsted inspect and your first aid has expired it's an automatic Inadequate. It is not your LA's responsibility to ensure you attend a first aid course. You need to contact alternative providers e.g. St johns, local colleges. You could look in the Yellow pages to see who else offers courses in your area.

You just pay & go on one

About £60-£90 - good luck finding one, it shouldn't be hard

Look out of your county it shouldn't be a problem, loads of private companies run them as well as st Johns and red cross, look on the web sites, contact your local childminding group and children centre, if you can get enough people together that also need an update you can organise a course yourself, they usually need a minimum of 6 or 10 people and a village hall.
