Had our (me and hubby)first family come around today for a interview re possibly starting September. 1 boy of 13 month,1 girl of 5 years and the other girl is 7 years old.

The boy crawled about and played with different things. The girls played with the duplo, play dough and drawing. The boy played with the ride on car and the push along the cars. When it came to them having to go they all didn't want to go .

She said she liked us and said she would be in touch later on in the week.

She phoned back this evening and she wants us to be childminders for her children!

The eldest girl said how she liked us more than her old childminder.

Congratulations 3 in one go!

Well done, it's so much easier to get new mindees when you have some already, and you have a good spread of ages for potential newbiees.

Well Done!!!

Excellent news! Fantastic! Well done! Go celebrate! Can't wait for my turn... I'm still waiting on registration certificate. How long did that take for you? ie. how long since you were registered & started advertising?

Numberfour · 28/07/2010 13:29

That's lovely! Very exciting for you. Well done!

um Iwilldothis we didn't advertise.

We went to a stay and play and where talking to the toy libary lady and she overheard us saying we don't have many toys as yet. She gave us some advice and tnen turned around to us and said "actually I looking for work and when I get a job I will be looking for someone to look after my children. You seem like a nice couple. Can I have your number and I'll phone when I get a job?"

2 weeks later she phoned and we arranged the interview and now she wants us to childmind for her children.

Although we haven't got our registration yet she is prepared to wait. She has her family that can help out in the meantime.

wow...brilliant! So.... moral of the story then is get out there and get talking to people and advertise myself! I will try do this.... thanks!

Yes I always when talking to people mention that me and my husband are going to be childminders.

I've had 2 other mum's ask for my number this way. Unfortunatly they didn't get back to us but it was good practice all the same. The first one that asked for my number I was shaking like a leaf but I got through it ok. She was asking all sorts of questions. Some of which I see in hindsight I should have been prepared for.

The way I see it though you never know who is looking for a childminder. My line with those with a child of the age I could look after that I drop into conversation is "aww me and my husband are going to be looking after this age soon as we are going to be childminders, I can't wait"

Which is true I really am keen to get started. This normally gets them interested in talking about it more. Even if it's a little bit. If they or someone that they know doesn't need a childminder they will soon let you know. In the meantime you are talking about your experience with your own children just like others would anyway.

ps I've heard it said before that when your talking to someone with a dropped in line like the one I mentioned. You sometimes get someone else closeby say "oh excuse me, I'm sorry I heard you mention your a childminder" and you can get your mindees that way too. So always speak well of what you offer. Don't put yourself down. Be confident and a bit bold. And who know's what will happen!
