With ds1 (fraction off 10lbs) I watched my belly with horror as the stretchmarks just r-i-p-p-e-d up my belly

Mind you, I was a fat git as well due to stuffing loads of chocolate!

mandyc66 · 21/07/2005 23:29

I remember the husband of my friend seeing me 2 days before ds was born and he just said 'bl*dy h*l' then was very appologetic..he couldnt believe the size of me!!!!

DS 11lb7oz would have been born on due date if labour hadn't lasted 48hrs.
DD only 9lb4oz much easier to handle .

GetOrlaithOut · 22/07/2005 10:42

chigacomum - I think she doesn't want her dd to 'stand out' in the crowd as being extra big or extra tall compared to her peers. I suppose we should also remember she only gave birth 9 wks ago so emotions and hormones are still all over the place. There is nothing wrong with the baby at all, she's all in proportion, happy, feeding well and sleeping well!! She just doesn't want her to be huge compared to others her age - especially as a girl.

jalopy · 22/07/2005 11:25

My youngest was 91b 6oz at 37 weeks (three weeks early!!)

pindy · 22/07/2005 11:31

my dd1 was 2lb when born at 26 weeks - sadly she wasn't with us for very long - so not sure if that counts really.

mandyc66 · 22/07/2005 12:22

of course it counts. So sorry. big hugs!
so we have an 11lb 7 and a 2lb
wow!!!!
Its amazing how different they can be at birth but is there such a great difference as they get older? and of course adult size doesnt seem to have any relation to birth weight does it?

my friends sister was 14lb (that must be the biggest so far) when she was born and that was her mums first baby. (ouch!) that must of hurt i don't envy ger at all. and she is a small lady too not that always makes a difference though.

her next two babies were only 5lb something, quite a difference there, but a change for the best i'd say.

my ds was 7lb 11oz (so just average)

Skribble · 22/07/2005 22:08

Am I holding the record for a mumsnetter? I know there are friends and relations with bigger. But do I hold the members record?

Judd · 22/07/2005 22:54

Boo Skribble! My Ds challenges yours to an arm wrestle (you beat us by 2oz!). How old is he now?

kid · 22/07/2005 22:56

My friends baby was born 11 weeks early weighing a tiny 1lb 12oz. She is still in hospital now but gaining weight. I think she is 2lb 5oz now

spidermama · 22/07/2005 23:00

My 4th baby was 10lbs at birth, so I've already been beaten.

But beat this....

He's six months old today and 25lbs (about 11.5kg I think)

spidermama · 22/07/2005 23:04

Aw! kid. All the best to her. x

4kids · 23/07/2005 10:37

DD1-1lb 7oz
Ds-8lb 5oz
DD2-7lb 7oz
DD3-3lb
DD4-3lb
DD3&4 are twins.
I think DD1 might be the smallest so far.

rodeo1 · 23/07/2005 11:08

I think I may have the smallest. My dd1 was 1 pound and half an ounce (I think about 465g), she was delivered at 26 weeks, and lived for 3 days. She was the smallest baby the Neonatal Unit at our hospital had ever looked after and they were amazed she hung on for those few days. I was extremely ill after delivery and got to see her on her 3rd day. I like to think she held out for me - I'm v.proud of her BTW, can you tell?

4kids · 23/07/2005 13:22

Rodeo1- my DD1 was born at 27weeks & lived for 10 days this was nearly 12 yrs ago i'm very gratefull to have had those 10 days.

mandyc66 · 23/07/2005 20:04

ds weighed 10lbs 8 1/2 oz. He is now 5 1/2 months and weighs 25lbs. Definitley not having anymore if they get bigger!

crunchie · 22/08/2005 19:59

Well I know this thread has been dne befre and I think I have the third smallest baby. My dd was 1lb 12oz. can't remember but someone last ime had a 1lb 9 ozer I think.
BTW DD is now 6 years ole and although a bit little, nothing really special and doesn't look prem at all.

Wallace · 22/08/2005 20:08

ds was only 6lb 11oz at birth but had doubled that by 7 weeks! A fact of which I am extremely proud

milosmum · 22/08/2005 20:27

DS 8lb 10 1/2oz and i thought that was big (it was cetainly difficult )

MarsLady · 22/08/2005 20:38

having seen the 1lb 10 baby post I concur that DT1 was an absolute heifer at 4lb 5oz

LouisaS · 22/08/2005 20:54

I can't imagine how it would feel to hold such a lovely tiny baby. My not so little lad was a real bruiser. I was very lucky with a relatively quick labour with no real problems. Maybe the bigger babies have less room to play around so have no choice but to come out quickly.

nooka · 22/08/2005 21:04

My two were both fairly small for singletons (6 13 and 6 10). Both a bit early (2 weeks/10 days I think). However dd is now very tall. She seemed to accelerate after the first year or so, and is now easily the size of children two years above her at school (she's just starting in reception). So I don't think that birth weight is that important. I did a height predictor test a while ago (childs height at 2yrs, plus mum and dad's height) and dd came out at an expected 6'1"!
