Ok, my good friend went into labour this morning with her first baby. Got a message today saying that she was 8cm at 12.30pm and the epidural had just gone in. It is now 9pm and I'm worried! Anyone know whether its normal to still have no baby by now???? Sure everything will be fine in the long run, just running through the possibilities...

With my dd I had my waters broken at 12md and had dilated 8cm by 6am, DD got stuck or too comfortable, she didn't come out until 2.03pm with the help of the vontouse (sorry can't spell), the midwife thought she would be out in 6 hours. This is very unusual for dd now 22 months, she can't sit still for 2 minutes probably a result of been stuck inside me, hope the next one (due Feb) doesn't keep me up all night. Hope your friend doesn't get too stressed out with it all

One of my client had this... 8cm at 1300 and delivered by forceps at 7PM (because she cried out "enough!"... she didn't have an epidural but a spinal block at the very end... There was no reason to intervene before that and she could have continued.... so maybe her labour has slowed down (not uncommon with first.... also with an epidural) and if baby is NOT in distress and mum is comfortable..... why intervene???
Let us know !

I was in labour for 24 hours and got to 8cm but alas could go no more! Was reasuured by doctors and mid wives that the baby was not under any duress and apart from feeling tired was fine. However ds would not come out so had to have a caeserean, this was due to his size 10lbs, 59cm long and as i'm only 5ft 2" this was understandable! I was fine so I'm sure your friend is to. Dont forget to let us now what she had!

I was at 8cm from 11pm until DD was born by caesarean at 12.16pm next day!
