Anyone planning to watch the new C4 programme "One Born Every Minute?".

It's a documentary set in the Princess Anne Maternity hospital in Southampton and it starts next Tuesday.

There's loads of video interviews etc on their website.

OP posts:

wow that baby looks big.

Hermya321 · 09/02/2010 22:00

I know, ow!

booboomonster · 09/02/2010 22:03

Yes see what u mean sausage. It obv works for them so shouldn't be judgemental - but the thought of having a tw*t like that in my labour room makes me feel stressed! Each to their own. Anyone else blub at the end? I am preggers tho so hormones r wild...

NotAnOtter · 09/02/2010 22:06

petitioner oddly i thought the midwife was shite
i like to be TOLD what to do especially when it gets scary - long silences and muttering 'recover baby recover' don't do it for me

MandaHugNKiss · 09/02/2010 22:09

sausage I know what you're saying - DP and I have what the sonographer commented on as 'a healthy level of banter' between us. But I've already warned him that if he is anything short of 100% supportive in the labour room then I'm slinging him out - he reposned that he thinks I'll be surprised at just how 'there for me' he is.

I guess it comes down to there are times when the jokes have to stop and the support has to start - ok, so it finally kicked in once the baby was in danger, but she was clearly exasperated in the early stages, then simply abandoned (for a fruit pot!). That it became clear he's a police officer also oes a long way explaining the 'gallows humour' but still... how can he lack SO much emotional empathy for the woman birthing his child?

Alls well that ends well and all that, but I'll wager there won't be many women in their circle of friends who will be congratulating him on how he 'came across'!

pointydog · 09/02/2010 22:11

I also thought the midwife was shite

WidowWadman · 09/02/2010 22:14

I thought Steve was alright - it looked to me just like normal banter between thecouple. My husband was like that and it helped keeping me sane.

KnackeredOfLeeds · 09/02/2010 22:14

I've watched it and I'm broody now!! I wept and laughed my way through it.. Sigh!! Can't wait for next week!!

sausagerolemodel · 09/02/2010 22:17

agreed manda, me and DH also banter a lot, but during birth i totally expected, and got, complete support. I couldn't have dealt with a Steve! (although I also wonder if a bit of judicious editing went on....)

DrSkidaddle · 09/02/2010 22:18

also thought the MW was shite - isn't it the done thing NOT to talk through a woman's contractions (or have I just been reading too much Sheila Kitzinger)??

KnackeredOfLeeds · 09/02/2010 22:21

Just realised we are on page 3 of the posts..I thought Steve was ok.. normal really and remember they had their 18 yr old son in the room so he was probably making light of stuff so it didn't get too intense or worried.. They have got the cameras on them too so it's bound to effect how you come across if your weighing up your words all the t time.. Only Mrs Steve forgot about the cameras..

PrincessBoo · 09/02/2010 22:23

I shouldn't have watched it, tried to get DH to ttc number 2 right now but he is playing his new game on the x-box

pointydog · 09/02/2010 22:23

Steve was an arse! Pinging her with a rubber glove during contractions, trying to lock her in the toilet, taking the piss out of the noises and comparing them to whimpers of passion. Fucking nora.

asdx2 · 09/02/2010 22:30

Makes me glad I barred dh from being at the births of all our five children
Probably never have had more than one otherwise

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 09/02/2010 22:32

Currently watching it on C4+1, so echoing the sentiments on here. I'd have strangled him with that bloody stethoscope!

tigerbear · 09/02/2010 22:36

Me too Yorkshire - what a total knob that Steve is!!!
Agree with everyone else - WHAT is the son doing there??
Why would he want to be watching???

NoahAndTheWhale · 09/02/2010 22:37

Am also watching it an hour later. I would have probably killed Steve. Although not sure how.

sausagerolemodel · 09/02/2010 22:41

Noah - so many creative options in a hospital setting

tigerbear · 09/02/2010 22:41

Fruit bowl FFS!!!

Cyb · 09/02/2010 22:43

Hospital receptionists ALWAYS look like NAncy

tigerbear · 09/02/2010 22:43

Poor 18 year old lad!

SarfEasticated · 09/02/2010 22:49

Ahh I felt so sorry for the young girl who had the c-section, she was shaking! Having to wait for 6 hours until she could see him. I hope he's ok.
They looked like such a nice young couple

tigerbear · 09/02/2010 22:49

That midwife is a bitch!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 09/02/2010 22:51

Am starting to push now along with her now. Goodness this looks horrid. This is really making me see the advantages in our lack of TTC success!!

NoahAndTheWhale · 09/02/2010 22:53

Feels a bit like me when DD was being born - although I had had diamorphine and so kept falling asleep. Was trying to push (not very well) for about two hours and so a scary doctor was sent in. Having had forceps with DS I really didn't want them again so summoned up all my strength and pushed her out .
