Baby is moving loads and sometimes the pressure feels so strong that I can imagine the baby falling out!!!

Am having tightenings too. Prob just bh though.

Dh just gone to inlaws with dc's for a family get together. I couldn't face it. The getting ready and smalltalk...

Thanks all of you

I did the school run and got a lot of 'you've still not had it' comments!! Yawn!!

I am now thinking that maybe it's a mistake and I am not 4cm dialated after all.

I just can't understand why I have so many bh/cx while I am lying reclined on the sofa or chair or wherever. For example I can feel non painful tightenings now, whilst on sofa..
I do sometimes feel them whilst walking around but def not as many as when I'm in my 'sofa position'
So strange.
I have just arranged to see a friend on wednesday

Princessmel this is exactly how I was with no3, so I lay down quite alot hoping it would hurry things along,

but thinking back to how quick everything all kicked off, I think my body was just working away queitly, ready to surprise me,

if I hadn't had to leave dcs over to my mums I would have had her at home, it was the only reason we left the house when we did

sooo excited for you and like Iwantachickandaduck, would love to be doing it all again

princessmel · 12/10/2009 10:40

Love the name punpkinBumMum

I'm worried though cos dh is so far away. I just rang him, but he doesn't want to leave unless it's happening. No that sounds wrong, he will leave as soon as I ask him too, but not sure when to tell him to leave.
But HOW DO I KNOW!!!!??

JumeirahJane · 12/10/2009 11:06

Good for babymel, giving her mummy more time to plan things for his/her big arrival, or at least to catch up on some sleep!

I haven't posted to you before princessmel, but followed your story on Sat, and sending good vibes for whenever babymel decides to put in an appearance. Hope it all goes well for you my love.

ps Good idea making plans for Wednesday, there's nothing a baby likes more than to confound plans!

Pumpkinbummum · 12/10/2009 11:19

Don't worry you will know, I was like you, had even got up in the middle of the night loads of time and lay on seatee,

dd2 was due on 31st of October, I was told I was 3 cm on 31 and would be in before weekend, that Saturday night I had a nice hot bath at midnight, went to bed dreaming I was having contractions, woke up and said this it,
it was 2.30, all the other nights dh hadn't paid any attention but this time he sat up abit and he was able to tell too,and yeap definitely, don't know wiehter I was squeezing his hand but he knew, she was born at 6.20, we only left dcs over to my mums at 5.00

and that dosen't sound wrong about your dh, he still needs to go to work, my dh would be the same

moosemama · 12/10/2009 11:21

Princessmel, you are most definitely not a failure, you are doing brilliantly. Everyone is loving this thread and thoroughly enjoying the suspense.

Babymel will come when he/she is ready and we will all be really made up for you. You are officially a MN star!

Have to agree with JJ by the way, making plans is definitely the best way to encourage baby to arrive and scupper them.

Sending you lots of positive labour vibes.

Disenchanted3 · 12/10/2009 11:24

Mel, I had exactly this for the last 2 weeks!

I would sit on the loo crying because it felt like baby was going to crown any second.

I spent hours getting in and out of bed because I thought my waters were about to go.

It was crap!

I really hope baby makes a move soon!

zazen · 12/10/2009 11:24

Oh definitely - make plans!

And good luck

princessmel · 12/10/2009 11:54

Disenchanted I am obsessed with the thought that they are about to go at any minute, I am always pulling down my knickers and having a look! Just did it in the hall..blinds down, nobody can see because I was sure I felt something come out. I am a gusset checking looney woman!!

I do the getting in and out of the bed thing too...

PBM I had loads of dreams last night that my waters had broken. But they were just dreams

Moose that's kind of you. I am truely not trying to drag this out in order to create a drama, I seriously don't know how I'll know if its real. I have had so many bh that hurt and then go on for a while, then come to nothing. gahhh!!!!!

hotchachachaingbunny · 12/10/2009 12:32

I have nothing to add I'm afraid - no experience of not knowing, as the night before dd was born (a week late) in my mind she was not coming. I'd had no cx, no tightenings, nada. But in the middle of the night, cxs every minute

Your baby will come when he/she is good and ready, meanwhile try to get as much sleep as you possibly can. We're all thinking of you - and you're not a failure at all

Can't wait to hear your good news when it comes though!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 12/10/2009 12:44

you are no failure, please don't feel like that, your baby is safe and snuggly inside you he/she will join the world soon enough,

enjoy this last bit of peace and quiet.

princessmel · 12/10/2009 12:50

thanks

Sleep and peace and quiet aren't always posible, this is dc3! But I did rest as much as possible this weekend. dh is great.

You would think I'd know all the signs, but as I said ( I think I said) ds was induced at 10 days late (no previous signs, twitches, bh show) and with dd my waters broke in the night with no lead up or warning. No bh show etc. Unlike this time which is symptoms-a-gogo!!

Hotcha, cx coming 1 min apart is worrying as dh is not close by today.

Have been getting tightenings all day today, not painful though. I can type...lol!

moosemama · 12/10/2009 12:55

Oh Mel, we know you aren't trying to drag it out, you couldn't anyway even if you wanted to - after all its not really up to you when Babymel decides to arrive its up to him/her.

I think as others have said, you will probably know instinctively when it starts to happen for real - nature is a wonderful thing.

I do understand and you have my sympathy. I had lots and lots of painful bh towards the end of my pregnancy with dd and it gets so frustrating. My mw reckoned it was those that made the actual labour so quick and easy in the end, so perhaps you could try think of each one as a positive step in the right direction? Not easy in your situation though I know.

I was also an inveterate knicker checker! I'm told that you will definitely know when your waters go though. Apparently its not that common for them to trickle, most women get a gush and more waters go during active labour than at an earlier stage or preceeding labour.

Bythepowerofgreyskull put it so well, your baby is safe and snuggly inside you and on this freezing cold morning, its the best place for him/her to be. Make the most of this opportunity to rest if you can.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 12/10/2009 13:12

Princessmel - don't worry too much about the 1m apart contractions. My DS was induced 10 days late (hated that labour) whereas my DD came naturally, 9 days late, but cx started v intense and was 1.5 min apart immediately - the cx never intensified and carried on with the 1.5 min apart for 7 1/2 hours!! When they started, as it was second, I thought baby would be there within the hour - no such luck!!

Baby will come when baby is ready. One question though, if MW said you were 4cm on Thursday - do they not want to see you around now anyway as it seems a long time to be "open" with no activity IYKWIM - would there be a risk of infection or anything? Don't want to be alarmist - just a question as I really don't know....

Also - those cx you previously had probably put you on another couple of centimeters !

princessmel · 12/10/2009 13:19

Cantthink no they don't want to see me. They just said come back when I am having reg/painful cx or my waters go or if I'm worried...etc.

I went in because my MW at the surgery wanted to check my waters hadn't gone, but it turned out to be lots of dishcharge.
Then while I was there I had lots of cx and they examined me and on my notes it says 4cm, bulging waters, soft stretchy cervix etc...

I have since read on MN and after googling that you can be 4cm (or other amounts) dialated for weeks before baby comes !!
Also I found out that lots of women stay open, maybe at 2cm forEVER after a vaginal birth!! .

dh has left office but is still at least an hour away if I need him.
Tightenings all morning.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 12/10/2009 13:43

Good lord - that's incredible about being dilated for weeks and AFTER!! You learn something new every day on here don't you?!

Still - on the positive side - when it starts, it CAN'T possibly go on for too long when you're almost half way there

IWantAChickAndADuck · 12/10/2009 13:46

I really need to stop looking at this thread, I may start piercing condoms soon...

Thats a joke, BTW, in case DP reads

princessmel · 12/10/2009 14:10

I know, seems odd that you can be 'open' for so long and then slightly open forever...!!!

I am looking at it that I am half way to 10cm too

Just made fairy cakes with dd. Tummy feels tight and am not in classic 'sofa/slump pose'

dh just got in

OP posts:
princessmel · 12/10/2009 14:18

Dh has just told me that he felt physically sick on saturday night when I was in pain/groaning!! Great....!

OP posts:
madmissy · 12/10/2009 14:52

yep i was told 1-2cm is normal with women who have had a baby at least you dont have the grr i'm only 1cm!

really hope something happens soon for you mel! sounds all like the right stuff is happening just taking its time!

juneybean · 12/10/2009 15:18

I just read this all the way through, I'm very excited for you lol

I do love a MN labour thread

Pumpkinbummum · 12/10/2009 15:29

ooh wonder will we have a baby by the weekend [excited]

Scotia · 12/10/2009 16:21

Good luck Princessmel - this thread has had me on the edge of my seat

Lulumama · 12/10/2009 18:04

you're almost halfway dilated and your baby is clearly nice and engaged. once labour kicks off, it will be short and sweet

don't be feeling daft, you're body has got you this far already !!

look after yourself and baby iwll come soon xx

chimchar · 12/10/2009 18:39

awww mel. chin up! you're not even to the old 40 weeks yet...how could we be mad at you!!??

i'll give you another two days before i start getting narky!

it CAN'T be long now...the longest stretch is over. its a waiting game now.

be sure to let us know when it does happen.
