ideas for fun gifts for brand new mom??

my coworker just had a baby yesterday and we are trying to think of fun gifts to give her (rather than just sending flowers). any moms have ideas of things they would have liked to recieve? pampering? practical? we are up for anything! thanks!

I got a big wicker basket of cotton wool, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby wipes, ear plugs (lol), bibs, a rattle, baby scissors, baby brush and comb set... and lost of other things that everybody needs for a new baby. Under those goodies was a big bottle of wine and a box of choccies for me and dh (oh and a packet of condoms!)
Practical yet with abit of humour thrown in.

oh there was also a gel eye pack, and a tiny book on first time parents (those little books from card shops IYKWIM)

You could either buy a basket and put a load of pampering stuff together like masks, bath bombs etc but get a little outfit for her newborn as well.

I loved getting clothes for my dd.

I got a huge basket of muffins and brownies from the beverly hills bakery which was a godsend - everytime anyone came to coo over the baby I threw them a muffin and a cup of tea and crawled back on the sofa. hurrah!

I like that PPH. Or how about one of those huge cookies that you can pipe a message on?

ahhhh but then you would just eat the WHOLE thing yourself during a 2am feed and then feel sick and disgusted with yourself...

I sure would....that's the whole point. Just what I need after giving birth.

I would have liked someone to come to the house and give me a hair cut and make over so I looked a little more glam on all those 'adoring mother and child photos', my goodness I looked dreadful. Anything pappering is good though - be careful about essential oils though if she's breast feeding

A very nice bottle of cognac or whisky with some Green & Black chocolate.

actually ninja that is brilliant. haircut facial and manicure/pedicure at home would have been STUPENDOUS...

the best pressie I got when I had bean was a bag full of gossipy magazines, baby magazines, posh chocolates and a bottle of gin. And I got far too many clothes for ds, would have rather had something nice for me.

Why don't you write a 'voucher' offering some babysitting, making it valid for the first year or so? She would prob be really grateful for someone to babysit for an hour once the baby is a bit bigger so that she can pop out and get her hair done or pamper herself? Or what about a voucher for a massage or a treatment at a local salon? Neils Yard in London do some lovely post-natal treatments and thats what my friends got for me, it was fantastic to have 1 hour to myself!

My sister's jusssst had her baby after a very long and tiring labour, and I'm getting my mum to organise some pampering for her I think. Trouble is she won't be able to sit down for long!!

agree with pph. ninja, that is a bril idea.
i know there is a company that arranges home facial, manicure, etc. but can't remember their name. anyone knows? although, do they only come out for groups e.g. hen party, or do they do individuals?
