Not sure if this is it, if I disappear I'm either having a baby, or tucked up in bed fast asleep, all contractions having stopped.
Have been told that with my second baby I should be going in when the contractions are 10 minutes apart - is that really true?! 20 min drive to hospital, but obviously it definitely won't be more than that at this time.

not like I'm going to be sick but a bit more spaced out and 'in labour' iyswim. Until about an hour ago I was just as normal but with regular pains.

hhmmmm it sounds like they are stalling you. you can try a tactical approach. it is still not too late to tell them that you are requesting a home birth! (That may encourage them to tell you to go in.) But then, you know me already.

gotta go but wish I could stay on for updates.

CrouchingTigerFeetHiddenBaby · 18/09/2009 15:50

Sounds as though things are really moving along now Stealth, will be thinking of you for the next while (and hoping the labour vibes rub off!)

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 18/09/2009 15:54

Bugger about the birth center, sounds like they are just really busy. Shaky, sick and strong regular cx, it sounds like things are moving on, go when you think you are ready.

Eddas · 18/09/2009 16:08

yay SPB, fingers crossed it all goes well

MoonlightMcKenzie · 18/09/2009 16:13

Don't think they should have said that tbh SPB. It isn't exactly the type of comment that a women who needs calm reassurance needs to hear.

Don't worry though. How long is the journey?

Do you have someone who can phone them to say that you are giving them advance warning that you are in labour and due to come in, so that they can sort out any staffing problems and ensure you have access to the birthing centre, - or they could call the on-call homebirth midwife to attend to you at the birthing centre, - given that they'd have to call them anyhow for a homebirth which is what you'll have rather than come into an overstretched hospital!?

Man up stealth.

MoonlightMcKenzie · 18/09/2009 17:39

LOL I'm guessing it's getting a bit more intense. You've done brilliantly, - keep going.

Look at the clock. Imagine the two hands on a time when it is over. Not too long now is it?

mummylin2495 · 18/09/2009 17:51

Deeeja · 18/09/2009 17:58

StealthPolarBear · 18/09/2009 18:15

still here, thanks everyone, especially db for the tea and sympathy
need someone to tell me how dilated I am - if I put a picture of my cervix on my profile will you all tell me what you think?

OP posts:
MoonlightMcKenzie · 18/09/2009 18:21

LOL! Yep do that!

Blimey SPB, you're doing great!

differentID · 18/09/2009 18:25

You sound like you're coping ok
how far apart now?

travellingwilbury · 18/09/2009 18:25

4cm I reckon ( absolutely no medical knowledge at all by the way but it sounds about right to me )

You do sound like you are doing a grand job as my old nan would say

StealthPolarBear · 18/09/2009 18:29

Well contractions still irregular, sometimes 5/10 mins, sometimes 15 but I tend to have mini contractions in between, so not sure what that means.

OP posts:
SpawnChorus · 18/09/2009 18:34

SPB - if it's any consolation that's what my contractions were like with DC1 and the MWs kept saying i wasn't in established labour, but when they eventually checked me I was 6cm dilated, so they obv were working! They actually never became properly regular...I had the mini contraction thing between big contractions right until the end.

oopsacoconut · 18/09/2009 18:35

Stealth - I reckon from my finely tuned unmedical skills you are 4-5 totally effeaced and baby is at +1 - so almost there

Bramshott · 18/09/2009 18:38

Go Baby SPB!! Hope he/she makes an appearance soon (ideally so I can have a glass of wine to wet the baby's head in ooh, the next 20 minutes?!)

MoonlightMcKenzie · 18/09/2009 18:43

The longer the faffy-labour the shorter the difficult bit.

Baby's birthday will be 18th Sept 09 mark my words!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/09/2009 18:46

go baby bear

I had odd irregular contractions like that with DS2, SPB and my doula said it was because he was probably back to back.

Mine were every five minutes, and every third one was more like 10 minutes and was much more intense than the other ones. I was also 6cms when I got to the hospital and was fully dilated less than an hour later!

Good Luck
