Lil · 15/08/2001 11:47

Joe · 15/08/2001 11:55

Ems · 15/08/2001 12:10

Congratulations to you all!!!!

What a great thread this is going to be, please keep writing with your early stories!! At the mo, we're all thinking aaaah, but I'm sure we'll all breathe a sigh of relief when you mention all the morning sicknesses etc!

Its really exciting, having had several recent births on here, its nice to have some new ones growing. Lots of luck. xx

Midge · 19/08/2001 21:45

I am adding myself to the expectant list! I was too nervous to announce it early on and have just been too busy to log on for the last two or three weeks. I am 19 weeks now, over the morning (all day) sickness and feeling pretty damn good at the moment! I had a nuchal scan which gave good results and reassured me a little.
Ds was born nine weeks early so I am a bit anxious as to how long this pregnancy wwill last, particularly as the consultant could not give a reason why he was so early (not uncommon.) I am trying to remain positive, everything will be ok this time, but every twinge makes me nervous and I have had a few tearful moments (its the hormones you know...)
Good luck to the rest of you, I look forward to updates as to how you all are.

Joe · 20/08/2001 06:54

Gosh, another mumsnet little one on the way. Good luck Midge

Hmonty · 20/08/2001 16:30

OK Ems, you can start feeling relieved. Morning sickness has kicked in and I feel horrible. Much worse than before I'm sure - or maybe I just blocked out the really bad bits before!

Quick question - Has any one tried these MorningWell audio tapes for reducing morning sickness? A friend suggested them but we don't know anyone who's tried them.....I've tried everything else and I'm getting desparate but there's no point shelling out if it's a con.

Thanks

Just wading through after a fortnight away. Congratulations Pupuce, Lil, Bugsy and Hmonty! And any I may have missed during my 15-minute scroll through "196 discussions have new messages".

Eulalia · 21/08/2001 07:02

I guess this is the place to be ... I'll join the bandbagon or should I say birthwagon! Recently discovered I am pregnant, sort of planned but a little earlier than expected. I am now 8 weeks and suffering nausea. Any tips would be appreciated.

Eulalia · 21/08/2001 07:06

Oh yes (pregnant brain kicking in already) I forgot to ask. Has anyone had bleeding in early pregnancy? I had about a days bleeding exactly the time my last period was due, hence the reason why I didn't think I was pregnant. I've been told not to worry but didn't happen last time and just wondered if it happened to others.

Joe · 21/08/2001 07:14

Congratulations Eulalia

Congratulation Eulalia! Another one to join the club!

On the bleeding front I had a very slight bleed with my first pregnancy at about 6 weeks and went on to have a very healthy baby. However, my third pregnancy I had a slight bleed and lost the baby. I don't want to panic you but I think it's worth checking with your GP. I've heard that to have a bleed at about the time your period was due is normal but maybe your GP could reassure you better.

On the MorningWell front I actually placed an order for a tape yesterday afternoon (4pmish or later) and it arrived this morning. Now that's what I call service. I'll test it out in a bit (luckily feeling sickness free at the moment) and let you know if it does the trick. During previous pregnancies I sworn by eating lemon sherbets (constantly...Drove my dentist mad!) and by eating small and often. Tried the motion sickness bands but I just ended up with sore wrists....Some people do swear by them though.

I'll let you know how I get on with the tapes....Only problem is that I don't have a walkman so I'm using the kids tape recorder (Fisher price!) and a pair of head phones. Not exactly portable!

Lil · 21/08/2001 08:18

Wow,I leave this site for a few days and come back to find more would-be mums - this is great - congrats Midge and Eulalia. Did you guys ever read the Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndeham. Scarey!!

Eulalia, you do realise your impassioned e-mails on breast feeding have struck a chord. It will be encouraging having you breastfeeding at the same time - I'm sure you'll end up more popular than the NCT advisors!!

Hmonty how are those tapes doing. I definitely feel worse this time - sick and tired, a real first trimester malaise, totally p**d off. April seems ages away, I can't wait until those happy hormones kick in next month.

Hmonty · 21/08/2001 08:33

Hi Lil,
I've just tried the tapes for the first time. Judgement is still out on that one....Definitely suffering this time. Soooo tired and down that I virtually slept for the whole weekend. Luckily hubbie is being very good.

My pregnancy brain is kicking in as well. I found the honey in the fridge yesterday and haven't seen my car keys since Saturday. Unfortunately I lost the spares a few weeks ago as well...which means I have a perfectly useless pile of metal sitting on the drive. Luckily I'd left it unlocked (more pregnancy brain effect) so I could get the car seats out yesterday! I've turned the house upside down and I'm just waiting for the greenflag man to come a cut me a new one! Opps!

Tigermoth · 21/08/2001 09:13

NO I'm not!

But many congratulations Eulalia and Midge.

Bugsy · 21/08/2001 09:41

Wow, how exciting - so many other pregnant Mumsnet friends. Congrats to Midge, Eulalia, Hmonty too! Still feel remarkably unpregnant and am convinced that there must be something wrong as I was very nauseous, exhausted etc last time. I haven't made it to the doctor yet because our surgery no longer does appointments you have to call on the day - what a pain.
I can't remember when the first scan is done - is it 11 weeks?

Lil · 21/08/2001 10:33

yes, 11 weeks at kings college - can't wait.

BTW that book I mentioned it was about an alien ship that lands in an isolated village and impregnates all the women in one night. Then they all give birth to identical alien children 9 months later. Don't have nightmares!!!

Ems · 21/08/2001 10:35

Wow, I go away for a weekend and come back to another pregnancy!! Congratulations Eulalia. Just met my friends newborn cherub yesterday, aaaaaahhhhhhhh.

Hmonty · 21/08/2001 15:39

Ems,
Do I notice a touch of broodiness kicking in???

Ems · 21/08/2001 17:06

OOh no, just that wonderful feeling that aunties and grannies must have, totally smitten, but thank goodness you can hand them back at the end of the cuddle!!

Eulalia · 21/08/2001 18:11

Thanks for the advice and of course congrats to everyone else ... still a bit behind. Not really sunk in. My GP told me something interesting. We know that the date of conception was about 20 days into my cycle. I thought this was a safe time as ovulation was usually around 14 days, ie 14 days AFTER your last period. However he says that if your cycles aren't 28 days then the estimated date of ovulation is 14 days BEFORE your NEXT period. I can't believe I didn't know that - really caught us out! Not that we weren't really planning but the intention was for a few months later to have a summer baby again. However a wee spring lamb will be nice!

Yes I remember the book Lil!

Thanks for advice on bleeding. The GP didn't seem concerned - will just have to wait and see.

Lizzer · 21/08/2001 19:24

You lot will be getting me broody! (fortunately having no partner kind of takes the risk element out of this statement - plenty time to get on with my studies then!) Congratulations to you all, I come back from holiday to find THIS thread - I'm amazed! A boom no less! People will be talking about this for years to come "Do you remember that Mumsnet-baby-boom in 2001, nearly doubled the population that one did...!"

But seriously I hope you are all getting along well, apart from the morning sickness of course. I was feeling extremely nauseous (sp?) on the ferry to and from Dublin so was clutching my bottle of peppermint essential oil to my nose for most of the journey - took my mind off it if nothing else, it's worth a try for 3 quid!

Rhiannon · 21/08/2001 20:50

Congratulations everyone, I have a lovely Cosatto cot and matching changing table for sale! Oh and two highchairs and a slide and, and, and, and.......

Midge · 21/08/2001 21:33

Thanks for the good luck messages.
Re morning sickness I tried the wristbands (sore wrists as mentioned before,) crystallised ginger (YUK) and in the end found that eating little and often was the best help - no cure but it eased things and I was a lot better this time round. I did find I felt a lot better (and still do) after a mint choc cornetto, and drop of red wine would be soooo nice right now. Thank god the nausea went overnight at thirteen weeks, and then bump starting kicking back at 15 1/2 weeks. I cant believe it is so early, with ds I didnt feel a thing - not even a butterfly - until 20 weeks.
I have got my anomoly scan in a couple of days, it seem ages since the nuchal at 13 weeks, I cant wait.
Hope everyones sickness stops soon, its miserable to feel that bad when you really want to feel good about yourself.
