Can I change mind about vbac in labour?

Do you think its rude to ask for cs when I get there? Should it have been booked before hand, or can I say I have changed my mind about vbac?

well tell 'em to f-off if they try and break your waters - mine didn't go until well into my labour with DS3.

They can be reasonably easily ignored when they're telling what you "must" have (she says speaking from experience after a highly succesful VBAC in K Hospital when I basically told them to f-off)

mydisguise · 15/07/2008 00:49

the contractions stopped?
my waters were broken at 9cm with my vbac and ds was born half hr later. my labour was under 3 hrs start to finish x

Divvy · 15/07/2008 00:59

I too would let them be broke with anything above 6-7cm, but not at barely 3cm.

1min 21 sec thatone lasted, 6 mins apart

and bugger, my hospital case is in restless toddlers room!
I have never had a baby this early before..its going to be 4 weeks early!!! (compared to others)

don't know how far I was with DS3 - they only checked once - that was when I first arrived at the hospital at 1.30 - think it was about 3ish my waters went -and DS3 turned up about 4.20

Divvy · 15/07/2008 01:08

dh is in denial that this is labour..I swear he thinks i was joking when i said i was getting pains.

Mind you..i have been whinging about being in pain for a while now.

But even me saying "iam having contraction", didnt mmake him flinch .....but me askinghim how many JD's he had drank tonight did! ha ha!
luckily only one as well!

lol Divvy - makes a difference from me - I was in denial that I was in labour (couldn't possibly have been in labour - my body didn't know how) - and it was H that eventually convinced me otherwise

Must go to bed now - good luck

Divvy · 15/07/2008 01:15

thanks, night

how far along r u divvy?

Divvy · 15/07/2008 08:47

Ended up on labour ward at 4.30am to be monitored.

Scan cos thought it was breech again...its noit jsut very boney bum!

Some cracking contractions 10 mins apart on monitor.

Internal and closed.....infact more closed than a closed thing!

They have said i cant go on like this for too long as i will be shattered soon, contractions to strong to sleep through. Also they cant start me off at all as consultant has put not allowed on my notes.

Baby head very high too!

Been given strong pain killers in hope to get some sleep. off to bed now seing midwife this after to be checked again.

I had similar with a VBA2C. They didn't leave me all that long - when it became apparent after about 8 hours that I wasn't progressing at all they switched to a nice, relaxed section done at a sensible time (5pm). They were concerned that if they left me they'd being doing an emergency cs in the middle of the night.

lulumama · 15/07/2008 09:02

if head is high and cervix is closed that is no indication of how things will be in ^established* labour. you can ask for a c.section but it is most likely the elective list for the day will be full. but you could have an 'emergency' one

bath can help you relax

some painkillers too

if you are admitted to labour ward, then some pethidine might well relax you and help you get through the early stages

the head might well come down once contractions are stronger and closer together

Divvy · 15/07/2008 13:29

Had a bit of bloody mucusy, is that a show or cos I have been fiddled with? She was going to give me a sweep but couldnt due to being closed, but think she must have tried?

I was also given a small enema before we came home, to see if that was blocking the heads way down.

So now have sore bum and sore la-la!

Been sleep for 3 hours so pain killers worked a treat.

Started to kick of again now I am up and about again

off to see my midwife for regular antnatal app in a while, which hos told me to keep, (i was going to cancel due to being checked over today) so to check on the baby again.

If this carries on, and head dont come down it will be cs again. no cervix pressure will equal no dilation. Just lots of contractions taht go no where......again...

ok, sounds like you could get going.. might well be a show...hope all goes well, whatever method baby exits by !

Divvy · 15/07/2008 13:42

Lets hope so! Either way, I am still feeling open minded.

Silly question...

Could the mucusy stuff be K-Y jelly she used for internal though?

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/07/2008 13:53

KY is clear. not as thick as a show or as snot like. it might be a bit of that and a show, especially if there is any blood in it

Divvy · 15/07/2008 14:01

It was bloody and clear snot like mucus... not watery, which i think ky is?

lol...only on the internet would i share that

Getting some nice strong long pains again now.

contractions on monitor where lasting 1min 30secs

best of luck

asur · 15/07/2008 15:34

good luck Divvy... hope you get the VBAC.

Just wanted to answer your original question - I was due to have HBAC 2 weeks ago but got in a panic about it and chatted to MW for hours who agreed to book a section for 4 days later and hope that I went into labour before and then at any point I could ask for section and it would be done as elective was booked. Went into full labour about an hour later, went in to hospital and was in the pool (bliss!) but I knew that DS was stuck and I demanded the section. MW really tried to convince me I could do it but I knew I couldn't. Doctor agreed with me and just after DS was born, he looked over the screen and said "that baby was definately not coming out any other way"

Sorry if this is rambling, just wanted to let you know that I did change my mind at the last minute and all was well. I felt so bad about my fist section but this one was much better as it was my decision and as I was already in labour, I knew that DS was happy to be born

mydisguise · 15/07/2008 17:00

best of luck divvy, fingers crossed for you xxx

Divvy · 15/07/2008 18:29

Well still contracting every 10 mins, so rang labour back like I was told to by my midwife this afternoon, and the midwife on the labour ward this morning.

..only now to be told they cant do anything for me, and there is no point going in, and I could be like this for ages yet!

So I am jsut to go on like this, until contractions get closer together, ring us back when they do.....

I was told I wouldnt be left to go on like this

I am going to ring up later after shift change

She also added in that they are really busy, but would find a bed for me if they had too....

OP posts:
FAQ · 15/07/2008 18:36

oh bummer - good idea about the shift change

Hope things get moving for you soon

Divvy · 15/07/2008 18:57

I have rang my own midwife, that told me go back in if still 10 mins later (now) she agrees about ringing at 9pm after shift change

she says not ask but to tell them i want checking over again, as she quite rightly says, things could ahve moved on since this morning and still be 10 mins apart

OP posts:
Divvy · 15/07/2008 19:34

also on notes from today it says...

SRM Bleedly ?

is that to do with my waters? have they gone, they didnt say?

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/07/2008 19:43

no idea, if your waters had gone, you would know! ask your MW

ctx 10 minutes apart .. they could well be doing something!@

Divvy · 15/07/2008 19:54

Ok maybe it says SEM would that mean something
