Were they accurate. Did anyone have any unexpected surprises?

Yes, it was accurate.

Jambags · 15/02/2026 01:24

Accurate - but I did ask.at every subsequent scan "is it deffo still a girl" 😂

honeyrider · 15/02/2026 01:24

Yes, told my second was a boy and it was, this was in Ireland 28 years ago unlike when I had my first in London where the hospital policy was not to tell.

DramaAlpaca · 15/02/2026 01:45

Yes, accurate both times they'd tell me.

With DC1 hospital policy was not to reveal the sex. The only surprise was that I guessed wrong!

RichPetuniaAgain · 15/02/2026 02:40

No. My sister was told she was having a girl and then out popped another son 🤣. But that was 25 years ago and scans have come a long way since then.

Noshadelamp · 15/02/2026 02:44

I was told if they see a penis and therefore tell you it's a boy it's most likely accurate, if they can't see a penis it doesn't mean there isn't one, it just means they can't see one, so being told it's a girl might not necessarily be the case.

Nursemumma92 · 15/02/2026 08:34

Told with both of mine girls and they both are.

TheBirdintheCave · 15/02/2026 08:38

Yep! My little boy was a little boy 🥰

Brewtiful · 15/02/2026 08:39

Yes it was accurate but he rolled and spread his legs in slow motion during the scan and it was so obvious that I didn't need them to actually tell me. 🤣

Overthebow · 15/02/2026 08:41

Yes accurate both times, one girl and one boy. It’s more likely for them to get a girl wrong and it be a boy then the other way round.

Cerialkiller · 15/02/2026 08:42

Yes both of mine. One of each.

Woo383040 · 15/02/2026 08:46

28 years ago and yes it was correct.

dementedpixie · 15/02/2026 08:50

I was told the sex of both my children from scans and both times they were correct

foggyday90 · 15/02/2026 08:52

Correct x 5

I did once meet a mum at a baby group who was told girl and had a surprise boy! This was almost 10 years ago though.

New2020 · 15/02/2026 11:16

Yep accurate but got the NIPT (might be called something else now) test done before the NHS scan

StarsShiningOnANighttimeSea · 15/02/2026 11:47

I personally never found out during pregnancy, but my sister found out during hers (2 boys, right both times) and will again in her current pregnancy.

I work in obstetric theatres and have seen a great many babies being born (close to, if not over a thousand at least) and I've only ever seen the anticipated sex be wrong twice. Both times they were expecting a girl and got a boy.

Gnomer · 15/02/2026 12:00

Yes. accurate, boy.

Shopaholic100 · 15/02/2026 18:46

Sounds like the majority of times they are accurate. With my children the hospital didn’t tell you. My friend was recently told girl which she is really excited about, but another friend was also told girl and she had a surprise boy 😳.

Nope, my ten year old was apparently a girl - out popped a boy!

schoolrundashsprint · 15/02/2026 18:51

A friend was told she was having twin boys. You can imagine the shock when twin girls came out! It took a while to name them.

My friend was the other way round, she also had a caesarian under general anaesthetic so she was very surprised when she came to.

I’ve had 3 children in the last 7 years I found out my first was a boy at 17 weeks and it was accurate, my second I waited for the 20 week scan but for fun at 12 weeks I send it off for the nub theory and they said girl, that was correct and my third baby now almost 4
months I had an early scan at 15 weeks and also sent off for fun the nub theory both said girl and she’s a girl. So all three correct for me.

verabarbleen · 15/02/2026 18:57

From what I’ve read you’re more likely to have it wrong when they say girl and it ends up a boy as the genitals can all look very girl like early on and then change! But that’s just from what I’ve researched

SuperGinger · 15/02/2026 19:12

Even I could see my DS was a boy in the scan, I had the scan picture on top of my folder and as I walked though the hospital everyone who saw it said ohh a boy! it was that obvious.

Allswellthatendswelll · 15/02/2026 19:19

I know of someone recently who was told girl at an 16 week scan, unsure at 20 weeks and boy at 32 weeks (it was a boy). With DD I did double check at my 28 week scan (as I had growth scans) before I started giving my boy clothes away!
