If you found out the gender of the baby during pregnancy was it correct?

Were they accurate. Did anyone have any unexpected surprises?

Yes, correct both times. I think in the last few years the ultrasound picture is super quality so it’s hard to get things wrong.

13RidgmontRoad · 15/02/2026 19:26

Sex not gender but yes.

Starburst360 · 15/02/2026 19:30

Yes it was for me, I could tell myself as the sonographer got the perfect angle. That said it was wrong for my friend. They initially thought it was a boy, but later scans confirmed a DD

tsmainsqueeze · 15/02/2026 19:32

1st baby a surprise.
2nd baby boy at scan -boy
3rd baby girl at scan -girl

SemperIdem · 15/02/2026 19:34

Accurate both times.

I had the early blood test option with my second. I was a bit dubious about that I have to admit!

Hodgemollar · 15/02/2026 19:37

Scan was accurate and early week blood test was also obviously accurate.

A friend was told she was having twin boys. You can imagine the shock when twin girls came out! It took a while to name them.

That must have been quite a shock probably had to rub her eyes a few times. It took me long enough to name one.

Yes but when I worked as a midwife 25 years ago there seemed to be a lot of surprises!!

Pineapplewaves · 15/02/2026 20:13

Yes - I was told a boy both times and had two boys. I don’t know anyone that had different to what they were told.

WhyIsTheDogOnTheRoof · 15/02/2026 20:16

It was accurate for us each time. I think it’s quite rare to get it wrong nowadays as the scans are so clear and many people have 4d scans as well.

I know of someone recently who was told girl at an 16 week scan, unsure at 20 weeks and boy at 32 weeks (it was a boy). With DD I did double check at my 28 week scan (as I had growth scans) before I started giving my boy clothes away!

We bought some neutral outfits just in case.😀

Mine were correct both times but my cousin's expected little girl was a boy when he popped out.

CaffeinatedMum · 15/02/2026 20:50

Yes but there was a woman on my post delivery ward who had been told she was having a girl and had a boy. They’d brought a personalised blanket to the hospital and everything.

Oh no, that must have been quite a shock.

Yes all 4 times

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/02/2026 19:23

We didn't ask what we were having but a lady in my postnatal Bay had clearly been told she was having a boy (boys clothes, blue blankets and soft toy with her) and it wasn't, it was a girl.

They were properly upset about it as well 😳

I felt a bit bad in a way as I had a boy! Though we weren't bothered either way.

Cerialkiller · 15/02/2026 08:42

Yes both of mine. One of each.

This and the boy was 100% a boy we could see it clearly.

If only people would stop using 'gender' when they really mean 'sex'. An embryo does not have a gender, it has a sex. 'Gender' refers to a social identity - something that can only be acquired after birth, due to social conditioning and experience.

I’m sure the embryo doesn’t care whether you say gender or sex

u1234 · 19/02/2026 20:17

Yes found out he was a boy at 15 weeks and could clearly see it
could also see it at 13 weeks but they wouldn’t confirm then

StormyLandCloud · 19/02/2026 20:19

Yes, girl first, once they showed me the vagina, it was completely obvious! Boys are easier lol

ExperiencedTeacher · 19/02/2026 20:27

Accurate- we had a boy

NotMyRealAccount · 19/02/2026 20:41

Yes, correct, with three pregnancies. I didn't find out with the others.

Years ago, I knew a mother of four boys who was told from a scan that she was having another boy. She wasn't normally inclined towards premonitions and superstitions, but she insisted throughout her pregnancy that she just knew this was wrong and she was having a girl. She turned out to be correct.

Vulva, surely? Vagina is internal.

The distinction becomes really important when men claim to be women. Embryos don't care, but other adults do (especially women).
