Hi all,
Could you be so kind and share your experiences/recommendations for hospitals in SE London that do c-sections?

Things I'm most interested in:

  1. can partner be present during surgery
  2. can partner stay overnight at ward
  3. support from nursing staff post surgery
  4. experience stay at ward post surgery

I'd welcome all stories as it's a big decision to make.
Thank you kindly

I had a planned c-section at 37+0 weeks at St. Thomas' back in October. My experience was a bit unusual because I had PPROM at 32+6 weeks and then a private birth, but I was a NHS patient largely up to the point of the section, which included a two night stay on the antenatal NHS ward after my waters broke. Post the in-patient stay, I was going in twice a week for bloods and obs.

I had a great experience - my consultant (Dr. Chadiramani) was amazing throughout, the midwives were friendly and competent and my husband was allowed to stay with me the entire time on the NHS ward. I picked St. Thomas' even though Kings and Lewisham were both slightly closer to me because it had such a good reputation and the Evelina Children's Hospital is also attached in case anything went wrong. We also had to tour the NICU given they thought it was likely that our son would come early and found it very reassuring.
