Kingston Hospital - Maternity Scan Inaccuracies

Wanted some advice - Currently 25 weeks pregnant and am registered at Kingston hospital. We had our 20 week scan at the hospital where the sonographer said they couldn’t see the face and heart so we had to go for a repeat scan. We then went back the week after and they were able to see the heart but said they’d already seen the face, even though they hadn’t? It was the same sonographer. We also found out today at our 24 midwife appointment that there were a number of inaccuracies in the report from our 20 week scan - She said my Doppler report was normal in the conclusion however in the report itself was raised. I’m really concerned that the whole report is wrong as I don’t know what to trust and am filled with anxiety and can’t stop crying - What shall we do? My husband has already contacted the complaints department, and the maternity unit. I’m considering moving hospitals but is this too quick of a decision to make? I just feel like we’ve done a disservice to our unborn baby 😔

Lots of people have given you advice on your thread on FB. I think you need to see what the outcome is of your complaints process and then decide if you've lost enough trust to move. It sounds like it is a sonographer issue rather than a midwife, so maybe you can request if a different sonographer is available for your next / repeat scan. However as you know, Kingston is our best maternity hospital locally. St Helier and St Georges both have their issues (although i had two good births at St Georges). So you need to decide if you think the loss of trust at Kingston is worth the issues you might have at other hospitals.

I completely understand your concerns. Is a private scan an option? I went to the Fetal Medicine Centre on Harley Street (which was founded by Prof Nicolaides, who is one of the leading Fetal medicine experts in this country, if not the world. Just to warn you that it’s usually his team doing the scans, rather than him. But they are all excellent). I did that in parallel with my NHS care.

For hospital care, is Chelsea and Westminster too far? I had all three of my children there and they were good experiences.

If you aren’t happy with the service, I would look at another hospital. You will find faults with everything now and it’s extra stress you don’t need.

I had my son at Kingston but due to an house move we and are using West Mid for our 2nd baby. I had a few issues at Kingston (extra scan checks because of concerns that luckily didn’t materialise and missed GD which needed insulin) but I wasn’t unhappy. Iv been really impressed with West Mid. I’m 20 weeks and the service has been great. It’s maybe easier with your second though because of lived experience

I just wanted to provide an update on this in case anyone else goes through something similiar and most importantly say a big thank you to everyone for commenting and giving me their advice, really appreciate it ❤️❤️
My husband received a call from the lead sonographer yesterday evening who told him that she’d reviewed all the images and everything was fine with our baby. She said she wasn’t sure why the sonographer made the mistakes on the report with not ticking that she’d seen the face, and also the incorrect conclusion about the increase in Doppler and apologised for this mistake. She said she would have a word with the sonographer and will also bring this up with her manager next week. We also requested that our additional growth scans be done by a senior sonographer and that we do not see this sonographer again which she was happy to do. Hoping this in the only time we go through something like this as overall the experience at Kingston has been great. She also said she would write our report again and post this to us so we can replace it in our file.

There's no need to post this twice.

Hello I have been through this twice with Kingston now and went through the complaint procedure due to another matter on my scan there. But my report was wrong too alot of it, even to the point I've been pregnant with this pregnancy for 12 years I got an apology and said they would update the system as even down to my doctors and address was incorrect on the report but maternity notes all correct. Weird but I went for another scan at 20 weeks same thing again incorrect details and told they couldn't see the heart because how baby was laying but it was the first thing we saw so bit confused. Told to come back in a week and half. I don't have issues with the antenatal unit it self only seems to be the scans there. I'm considering changing hospitals especially after reading others reviews saying the same and worse.
