Cost of birth at Lindo wing

Hi everyone I am due Oct 2025 and I am currently looking at birthing packages at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's London. I am finding it all so confusing and overwhelming understanding what sort of costs we will be looking at. I am a British Citizen but living in Dubai (hometown is London), hence why I will have to opt in for private maternity care. Please can someone share a breakdown of the costs for a midwife led care package, as it sounds like the birth package is a totally separate cost to the midwife costs and anything else that is required. I would be ever so grateful for your help as the cost is starting to sound really scary. Thank you so much.

Here is the price list:

The package price basically pays for the hospital costs and then you need to pay for your midwife/consultant on top. You contact them directly to book. I was consultant led but if it works the same then call the hospital and they will send you a list, if you don’t have anyone in mind. Mine was a few years ago now but I think it was £8k for my consultant package which was the birth itself and visits while in hospital. I had some additional charges for scans and consultations pre birth, the take home drugs and a six week after check up. I think it was around £17k total.

Thank you so much this sort of estimate it helpful and nice to have it confirmed that the consultant fees are not included. I guess it is a case of emailing each consultant separately to gauge an idea of their cost. It's also not knowing how many scans would be needed or what medications we would need.

If anyone else can share their experience that would be much appreciated!

I wouldn’t worry about the drugs, mine were around £25 and I had a c section so I had to take daily injections for a week or so after. I think consultations were £350 and the scans were maybe £150?? The consultant will tell you upfront what the costs are though and I think for scans etc they will be roughly similar no matter which consultant you pick. I transferred over my care quite late as I live in another part of the UK so I only needed one scan. I think I went around 7 months. I went to queen charlotte rather than Lindo and it’s also ran by imperial. Quite a few of the consultants work between the two.

If you just want the midwife package that is included in the £9k though you may need to budget for additional scans/medications etc.

You may also need to budget in case anything goes wrong and you need a consultant/c-section etc which could nearly double your price. it's been a while but when i looked consultants were between8-10k depending on how many appointments you had/how complex the birth was and the individual consultant.
