Health insurance for birth injury

Hi everyone,

Just wondered in anyone had any experience re private medical insurance covering postnatal treatment needed for birth injuries/complications?

I previously had a termination for medical reasons which unfortunately resulted in complications. I could not access timely diagnosis or treatment on the NHS and so ended up paying privately, which was very costly.

Now contemplating a new pregnancy, I worry about being in the same situation again. But looking at insurance policies, they seem to largely exclude anything about pregnancy. Is anyone aware of a policy that would cover eg surgery needed to treat a birth injury? Many thanks.

Bupa will do it, but it won’t be cheap. There’s also a moratorium of 10 months before they’ll cover maternity

Most policies have limited cover for pregnancy and will only cover you for complications or needing a c-section for a medical reason. Terminations are usually considered if for an eligible medical reason but you’d need to check when buying a policy if you having had one before you mean it’s counted as pre-existing.
