Bleeding came back postpartum and now having stomach cramps

I'm just over 5 weeks post partum and my bleeding had stopped for almost a week then suddenly came back with heavy-ish bright red blood (like a period but much more on and off - like it'll stopped for 12 hours and then another gush and then stop). I've had three days of that on off bright red bleeding and now today my lower abdomen feels quite tender. If it doesn't let up I'll take some painkillers before bed.

I've got an appointment on Thursday afternoon. Presumably there's no need to try and bring that forward or get seen sooner?

Yes I think you do need to see someone today. My sister had similar and she had an infection. She needed Antibiotics.

It would be retained placenta or infection. You need to be seen ASAP.

I had a scan and everything looked fine. Cramps have gone now so must have been something else.
