Postpartum hemorrhoids in agony feel hopeless

Had my second baby 4 weeks ago and have been left with an agonising thrombosed hemorrhoid. GP has referred me to a surgeon and suggested stool softners and ice. Hemorrhoid creams don't help and it is so painful to walk, sit, move not to mention go to the toilet!
Has anyone been here and how did it pan out?
I'm terrified of this pain remaining but equally have read horror stories of the surgery too and feel totally hopeless

So sorry OP, this was me post birth the first time and it’s absolute hell!!

Did the GP not give you the prescription creams or suppositories? The off the shelf stuff is useless when it gets to this stage. Keep on top of the stool softeners but use something like movicol, personally found lactulose no help, and put your feet on a step when you go to the loo so you are doing absolutely zero straining.

You have my sympathies, they are so so painful.

Have you tried the steroid based suppositories from the GP? And I also found an ointment called uniroid to be helpful, it has a local anaesthetic in.

They may well settle now that pregnancy is over. I had surgery at 3 months PP and I’ll be honest it was not a nice experience and I have more issues now than I did before!
