im ashamed to say that yes i did poo when pushing my daughter out which i might add was simply mortifying!!!.im gonna say it was beacause my daughter was in the back to back posistion (just to make myself feel better )but the truth of the matter is when your told to push as though your doing a poo its inevitable that its gonna happen.ooh the shame

I honestly don't know. I don't think I would have noticed if I did.

I had an agreement with dh that if I did, he would not mention it afterwards

reikizen · 11/04/2008 11:32

No need to be mortified at all. I'm a student midwife and I've seen plenty of poo during labour, it's quite normal! Some women seem to be happily oblivious due to the more pressing nature of a head emerging from their flue! Most women mention it as something they are dreading too.

MummyToOneForNow · 11/04/2008 11:33

Think it is quite normal and don't think anyone notices tbh - not sure if I did or not (was on all fours for most of it) but suspect I did. Dh stayed at head end and didn't say anything... I think most people poo beforehand (part of your body's way or preparing/clearing out) so there wouldn't be a huge volume? Leave your dignity at the door and all that...

tudorrose · 11/04/2008 11:35

I wasnt even pushing! body did it on its own. makes me cringe if i think about it!

tyaca · 11/04/2008 11:36

same as doggie and thats almost worse than knowing exhausted, induced and epidural kicked in - half asleep and i have this vague recollection of a group of midwives pulling a face when they checked me out down there and there was a clean up operation. at the time i thought maybe it was water//blood as my waters had been broken a few hours earlier... but the more i think about it the more convinced i was that i had been sitting in my own poo for a while. ugh ugh ugh.

tyaca · 11/04/2008 11:37

how many blush emoticions do you think there will be here before this thread dies?? i reckon a dozen - anyone raise that?

3kidsisquiteenuff · 11/04/2008 11:38

i would'nt of cared so much but my older sister was my birth partner and whenever we get on the subject of birth she always brings it up it reall grossed her out .i was in labour for 14hrs and she just couldnt understand why it was taking me so long her 2 kids just fell out according to her. bucket crutch!!!

DH was holding me in a supported squat and I went down his legs. I will pack spare trousers for him this time round.

I spoke to midwife about this and she said if if it happens during labour they are all taught to just whip up incontinence sheet that is normally below you to catch most thigs and throw it away and not mention it.

I didn't with DD had spent all day pooing anyway and as for DS I have no idea!

Mercy · 11/04/2008 11:45

I did with dd but not ds.

JODIEhavingababy · 11/04/2008 11:49

LOL at this thread! It was my worse (worst?) fear while pregnant, but when it came to it I couldn't have cared any less!

I gave birth in the water and the Sieve that they used was working over time! DS was Back to Back, so he'd blocked my 'passage' for 2 days, so there was a lot to get rid of!!! I was quite glad of it really as it gave me something else to concentrate on other than a massive head!

Ambi · 11/04/2008 11:51

Not aware if I did, but vomited on myself twice!

3kidsisquiteenuff · 11/04/2008 11:51

it really would'nt of been too bad but it stank fink it had been festering!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Mercy · 11/04/2008 11:53

Ambi, I vomited too! I think it was the force of the contractions as it wasn't like a normal vomit iyswim (fortunately it happened before the pushing business)

cripes yes

on my notes from ds1's birth it says "BO++" [shame]

Tutter · 11/04/2008 11:55

(it doesn't mean i smelt, btw )

Bumperlicious · 11/04/2008 11:56

I think I did, but my waters also broke quite late so there was so much gunk coming out I didn't even notice.

I have a quick hijack question: there was a lot of blood when I gave birth but I tore quite badly. If you don't tear is there no blood? Or does it come from your uterus?

MrsTittleMouse · 11/04/2008 11:58

What does BO++ stand for Tutter?
Now I'm scared to look at my notes in case it says the same thing.

Dropdeadfred · 11/04/2008 11:59

Bowels open...?

Mercy · 11/04/2008 12:01

Bumperlicious, I tore with ds but not dd and there was blood each time (I'm sure lulu or someone can explain the whys and wherefores!)

Tutter · 11/04/2008 12:03

indeed, ddf

i asked on here

and then wished i hadn't...
