What the heck has gone on with my periods!?

I have an 11 month old and since giving birth my periods have been horrendously heavy and last at least a week. I'm currently having my worst bleed of heavy for 9 days now and I'm exhausted. I had some bloods checked and my iron was very low so taking iron tables and eating a lot of greens.

Should this improve with time or worth speaking to a GP? My periods used to be 3/4 days long and not cause me trouble. I'm EXHAUSTED!

I've also been getting awful ovulation pain that is extremely painful and then a heavy bleed so feels like never ending!

My first 2 periods after the birth of my second child were awful, felt like I was in labour again and all I could do was take to bed and wait them out. They were really heavy with clots which I now wonder could have been retained placenta. This was my first vaginal birth, didn't have any problems after my first which was a planned C-section. I really hope they settle down but I would probably try and see your GP again as it's been nearly a year, or maybe go straight to community midwives if you find it difficult to get an appointment or feel you don't get the answers from the GP?
