Is constant back pain a sign of labour ?

I’m 38+4 and since yesterday have had a constant lower back ache. A lot of stabbing pain in the pelvis and lots of braxton hicks. Could labour be on the way?

Yes. Do you know what position baby is in? My painful back was because they were 'back to back'. It was a long labour so strap in! Have you got a tens machine?

@TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy i had my midwife appointment on Friday who said he is very low down and wouldn’t go any lower until I went in to labour, I did ask if he was back to back but she said she didn’t think he was, hoping this could be the start of something!

@CandyLeBonBon hoping this could be the start of things but no proper pain yet! The back pain I have is constant and very low down but it’s manageable I can still go about my day

Sounds like my first labour - I had no contractions/tightness/pain across my bump at all, it was constant solid back pain. It started in the afternoon as twinges and pressure and in the evening I phoned the hospital when it was too uncomfortable to lie down, they admitted me and I was fully dilated already. Don’t dismiss it just because it’s not at the front!

If I were you I wouldn’t do too much “going about my day” right now! Good luck x

@soscarlet ahhh I’m hoping it is the start of labour! Although it doesn’t feel any different to yesterday so the pain hasn’t got worse yet.. nope I will be staying at home all day just incase!

Sounds like mine. I had this one day, then not the next day, then it came back the day after that and baby arrived pretty quickly.

@MrsW9 i don’t think it meant anything for me :( still pregnant and back pain has gone!
