38 weeks pregnant, completely soaked the bed but hospital says not waters ?

This morning I got up for a wee then got back into my bed when suddenly loads of water came out of me. It soaked my bed all the way through the mattress protector and there was water sitting on my Mattress when I took all the bedding off

I took a picture but it's not letting me attach it

I was checked over at maternity and I'm having a lot of tightenings but they checked my cervix which was closed and did a swab to check for amniotic fluid which came back negative ?

My bump feels a lot smaller, especially around my waist line, and a lot more compact

Baby movements feel different which I told them

They monitored baby and baby seems fine

It was absolutely not urine, I had just been for a wee and the water was clear that was on my bed and no smell to it

They've sent me home but my friend is telling me to go back ?

If they’ve swabbed and it wasn’t waters then it was urine - even if clear! Sometimes the baby’s head can move onto your bladder and force it out, especially if you’re getting in and out of bed. Well hydrated urine doesn’t smell.

If you’re still having regular movements, no contractions/tightenings and feel ok in yourself I wouldn’t think you’d need to go back. But if you’re worried of course go and get checked out again.

If it's your waters you will keep leaking amniotic fluid, are you still leaking?

Daisypod · 05/04/2024 16:38

Also water's definitely smell, kind of like sweet tea

Amniotic fluid smells sweet.

Go back, I had this, they swabbed and said it wasn’t my waters. I asked them to swab again because I knew it definitely was and second swab was positive, induced the next day. If it is your waters you are at risk of infection, tell them you are concerned about this and that you want it noted that you have told them your waters have gone and you are concerned about the risk of infection, good luck xx

Amniotic fluid smells completely different so did you notice an unusual smell? I leaked all over bed both pregnancies when my waters broke. The first time they tried to say it was urine but I knew it wasn't. If you think it is ask them to check again. They recommended inducing 24 hours after my waters went to avoid risk of infection.

Definitely go back, the swabs aren't infallible. You know your body and something has changed!

If it's your hind waters, then they can reseal with position.

If it's completely clear and smells of nothing at all, then it's likely to be a ton of discharge rather than your waters. Are you continuing to leak fluid? If your waters go in a spectacular fashion then you tend to continue to leak. If a pad is now dry, it's unlikely to be amniotic fluid. It's a tricky clinical situation though!

i've heard of it leaking when laying down but not when standing up as the baby's head blocks it - do you leak when you lay down still?
