First - natural birth, 4am, home early afternoon
Second - natural birth, lunchtime, had to stay in overnight as baby was being monitored over 24hrs as had shown signs of stress during birth.

Dracarys1 · 22/01/2024 10:18

Both births vaginal delivery with ventouse. Both early hour babies so 5am-ish and out the following afternoon with one night stay. Had an episiotomy both times too. Weirdly since birth they couldn't be more different 😂

KThnxBye · 22/01/2024 10:21

Three babies born vaginally and normally, I never went to a hospital for birth so was home immediately.

1stTimeMama · 22/01/2024 10:22

1st hospital birth I was in overnight as he had his cord wrapped and was tiny. Was meant to be a home birth but I surpassed the time allowed after waters breaking. I had him 30 minutes after getting to hospital.

2nd hospital birth (during Covid) I was there for 6 hours. The only reason I did this, was so I could be induced and my husband be there.

I would much rather have not gone to hospital with either of them.

My 3 other births were home births. Far better experiences.

All births were natural, with gas and air for some of them, no pain relief for the rest.

Emergency c section... 6 nights. Baby was jaundice

Emergency c section. 3 nights.

TheWhiteCat · 22/01/2024 10:23

1st C section - two nights

2nd C section - one night

One EMCS under general anaesthetic with PPH,gynae surgery and blood transfusion - 48 hours. ELCS under GA - 48 hours. In my limited anecdotal experience, only something being monitored with the baby will keep you in longer than the minimum NICE guidelines.

2 vaginal births without intervention

1st time - 1 night for them to give me stitches, help with breastfeeding and do relevant checks on baby

2nd time - 6 hours, stitched me up, did newborn check and I was allowed to go. I had to return for hearing and other bits the following week

LittleRobins · 22/01/2024 10:35

Vaginal delivery with episiotomy and forceps- two and a half days. They had a tick list I had to meet before they’d let me home (mostly easy things like watching the safe sleep video, baby having hearing test etc) and as I was struggling to breastfeed they insisted on keeping me in until the witnessed me successfully feeding him

TooMuchPinkyPonkJuice · 22/01/2024 10:37

Vaginal birth with epidural. I was placed on the ward at midnight, so I'll count that as 1. I was told I couldn't go home until they saw me 2 feeds. Except the care was so shite I couldn't get anyone to see me feed and I was struggling with no help so I requested a transfer to the MLU to be actually cared for. Did one overnight in there and home the next day.

Tdcp · 22/01/2024 10:37

After birth I went home the same night but I was insisting... I did have a really bad tear so they kept me as long as possible and let me leave about midnight.

lightelmqueen · 22/01/2024 10:38

1st: natural birth, I was in for about 28hrs after due to surgery needed after birth
2nd: natural birth on route to hospital. Was admitted to hospital for five hours just to monitor me after blood loss
3rd: natural birth, I was in for about 14hrs but that was due to monitoring dd as she was very small

AverageJoan · 22/01/2024 10:38

I had to stay in hospital a full 24 hours as LO was having problems with regulating her temp after she was born. Natural delivery, no interventions

ChangeAgain2 · 22/01/2024 10:39

1st emergency c section 3 nights
2nd planned c section 1 night

MuchTooTired · 22/01/2024 10:44

DTs were born by elcs at 36+5 in the afternoon, we were kept in for 2 nights so that they could monitor their blood sugar levels.

semantlename · 22/01/2024 10:53

In a couple of nights both before and after both of my induced natural births.

shearwater2 · 22/01/2024 10:54

First birth, vaginal delivery, epidural, 6 hour labour, gave birth in early hours of morning and left the hospital at lunch time.

Second birth, vaginal delivery, gas and air, 6 hour labour, gave birth in early hours of morning and had to stay in 24 hours to check for infection, as I wasn't sure when my waters had gone.

Istheregoldattheendoftherainbow · 22/01/2024 10:56

C section. Was in 3 nights - 1 before baby was born and 2 after and was only in because he was only taking small amounts of milk often and the day midwife didn’t like it, the night midwife said that was fine and that they should’ve let us home

SquigglePigs · 22/01/2024 10:56

Planned c-section and we were in for 3 nights. Born Tuesday morning and we went home just after lunch on Friday.

Faz469 · 22/01/2024 10:59

I was in 48 hours. Went in to be induced at 6pm on the Sunday. They induced me at midnight, he was born at 7.45am monday. Stayed in 1 more night for monitoring as they thought he had an issue with his brain. Brain was scanned Tuesday morning and we were discharged Tuesday afternoon as there were no issues.

Blueberry911 · 22/01/2024 11:06

Remember it's not just about you, it's also about how baby is doing. I had an assisted vaginal birth and then baby needed to stay in unexpectedly for a week so we couldn't go home even though I was relatively fine. As fine as you can be after pushing a 7 pound baby out 😆

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 22/01/2024 11:07

Vaginal birth, was in for 4 days after due to an epidural gone wrong and punctured my spine. (It sounds scarier than it is, I'm fine now with no long term problems)

IrisVonEverec · 22/01/2024 11:15

When dc1 wad born, for some reason I was kept in for 3 days even though it was a natural birth, only gas and air and no complications or concerns about me or baby. I did struggle to establish bf because I had absolutely no clue what I was doing and wasn't even sure if I wanted to do it at all if I'm honest and the midwives were so eager to give the baby a bottle at every opportunity anyway so dc1 never lost weight. I was 21 and wonder if my age was a factor in them keeping me in so long but I was desperate to leave. I didn't question it at the time because I didn't know what was normal or not.

Dc2 was born at home because of how much I hated being stuck in hospital with dc1.

TallulahBetty · 22/01/2024 11:19

4 days, after a quick induced VB.

DD had IUGR and couldnt keep her temp up, else we'd have been home sooner.

GreenMarigold · 22/01/2024 11:20

Child 1 - natural birth, born 10pm and discharged 8am. Small tear.

Child 2 - natural birth, born 1am and discharged 4pm. We’d have been out earlier but had to stay a little longer as she had a lot of birthmarks and they wanted to double check there were no issues.
