Better hospital to give birth in - Watford, Barnett or QE2

Hi,

I am currently living in St Albans and looking at options for hospitals to give birth around the area.

What is a good option between Watford, Barnett and QE2 in welwyn garden city. Or is there any other better option apart from this?

I'm a first time mom so bit nervous about choosing the right hospital.

Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thank you

The QE2 no longer has a maternity ward, it would be The Lister in Stevenage. Watford was fine when I had DD, but that was some years ago .

Luton

I know two people who have had their babies at Lister and both had awful experience. I had mine in Barnet two years ago. the after care was a bit chaotic but the actual birth was good. lots of my friends who have had there have been happy.

I would say Barnet is listed as London so when student doctor's get placements etc they have to have a higher score to get there than Watford or Stevenage. it may be minimal but something to consider

I've given birth in both Watford and Luton, although 10+ years ago and Luton was a way better experience.

I had a good experience in Barnet a few years ago. I was living nearer there at the time. We were well looked after. Good luck!

Hi! I was just searching for QE2 vs Watford on google and your post came up. I hope everything went ok, can I ask where you went in the end and what your experience was like?

I’d also really like know the outcome of this! Due in June next year and also in St Albans.

Hello @acoote
Had the baby last year at Watford. All went well. Baby and I are healthy. There was a delay in administration of epidural because they messed up my blood tests. That was the only issue really

I had one baby at QEII before the maternity unit was closed and one at Lister. I had a terrible time at QEII but aftercare was excellent. Lister was brilliant. I have no complaints.
