I'm currently 40+5. Been having contractions since yesterday morning. Mostly manageable yesterday, went out and about we walked around. Went to the chip shop for tea etc. bit of discomfort last night but did sleep.

Today... the pains have got worse and worse as the days gone on (which obv they do). I've been losing my plus over the last few days but not my water.

Anyway bottom line is I just can't cope with the pain. Seriously agonising, crying groaning etc. I rang the hospital and they said go up. I AM ONLY 2CM DILATED. They offered me to stay but on the ward (not delivery obv) without my partner or take 60mg of codeine and go home. Opted for the codeine and honestly it hasn't touched the pain. I am still writhing about every 5 minutes (contractions are about 90 seconds).

Really don't think I can do this and super stressed what I'm going to be like at 6,8,10 cm.

I have tried everything. Baths. On the ball. Walking around. Sitting down. Standing up. Leaning over. Paracetamol. Hot water bottle. Nothing is helping me.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I know I'm pathetic too so don't need comments telling me how bad it's going to get and I'm in for a shock etc.

No advice but can't read and run.

I hope things improve and that meeting your baby makes it all worthwhile! 💐💐

You aren't pathetic AT ALL!! You're pushing a human out of your body!

And with DS2, my contractions at 4cm were as regular and painful as they were at 8cm with DS1, so that just shows that every single labor is different and the pain is unpredictable.

Best wishes to you and I hope when you get admitted they give you some quality pain relief.

Keep us posted as to how you're getting on and hope baby arrives soon for you x

Motherofalittledragon · 27/10/2023 01:47

If you are in too much pain go back to the hospital, nothing to say your 2cm now, you could've progressed.

Lexie365 · 27/10/2023 01:48

My first labour I had very bad pains for almost 2 days while still being at about 1-2cm and if it helps they never got too much worse until I was far enough along to get epidural (think I was 5-6cm) going by my second labour these pains were comparable to being atleast 4 cm so don't feel your being pathetic as some labours do be stronger pains I think but like I said kind of stayed same pain wise for a while so theres every chance yours might not get 2 much worse until u can go into hospital x

Bless you OP, I had a lot of pain at 2cm dilated and thought I was much further along.

It turns out baby was back to back and in a really awkward position.

Do you have a TENS machine you can use?

Naff as it sounds, each contraction means one less to go through and baby will be here so soon!

I was only there at 23:30. But the codeine hasn't worked and will start wearing off soon.

Also might sound like nothing but honesty learning to breathe through my contractions the right way can help 2 x

I don't know if they could get worse I honestly don't know if could take more. I hope my experience is similar. Not sure if it's because baby is back to back

Baby is back to back actually. No but I could get partner to go out and get me one first thing. Do they help?

I did find my TENS was a good distraction, and helped with the pain a bit, yes.

Maybe a (very good!) friend could drop one over? I appreciate it's late though.

I think I got mine in Boots.

Hot bath may help?

I'm actually in the bath but doesn't seem to help. I've been in and out all day. I don't know if any of my friends have a tens machine. I've not heard them mention it but could ask around in the morning.

Hope it's progressing op. With my first I had intense stringing contractions every two minutes from being 2cm dilated. It didn't really get worse (until actual birth) the pain was as intense at 2cm as at 8cm.

My next 2 children much more textbook

Potatomashed · 27/10/2023 04:17

You aren’t being pathetic at all, labour is intense! If baby is back to back have a look at ‘Spinning Babies’ which lists specific movements to do for back to back babies to help turn them to a more optimal position. It’s amazing how well they can work!

Potatomashed · 27/10/2023 04:18

Have a look on marketplace for a TENS? Or your midwives might have some if you ask in the morning.

Potatomashed · 27/10/2023 04:19

Also the Freya contraction timer app guides you through breathing through contractions. I found it really useful to learn how to stop fighting them and keep my pelvic floor soft when they came. Little one was born last night and I’m up feeding her now. It will all be worth it OP!

Glendaruel · 27/10/2023 04:20

Just a thinking of you. It's tough right now but you can do it!

franke · 27/10/2023 04:21

What @Potatomashed said. Back to back is tough but there are positions you can get into which might be a little more comfortable. Also breathing and low noises from deep within you, not screaming.

You're definitely not pathetic. Keep going.

Delphina17 · 27/10/2023 04:21

So sorry you're in so much pain, OP. Just to reassure you, your contractions won't necessarily get worse. My last labour I went to get checked and was 3cm, got sent home, only to need to push 2.5 hours later. Made it to hospital in the nick of time and wish I'd stayed as it was so stressful wondering if baby would be born in the car. My waters didn't break until right before baby was born.

Try to keep walking around if you can, and just go back to hospital if you're not managing. Ask them to check you again. Checks tend to stimulate the cervix so might make things progress faster.

Hope you get to meet baby soon!! ☺️

I'm glad to hear that it got better, I don't think I'll be having more (can't even do this one 🤦🏼‍♀️)
