I'm currently 40+5. Been having contractions since yesterday morning. Mostly manageable yesterday, went out and about we walked around. Went to the chip shop for tea etc. bit of discomfort last night but did sleep.

Today... the pains have got worse and worse as the days gone on (which obv they do). I've been losing my plus over the last few days but not my water.

Anyway bottom line is I just can't cope with the pain. Seriously agonising, crying groaning etc. I rang the hospital and they said go up. I AM ONLY 2CM DILATED. They offered me to stay but on the ward (not delivery obv) without my partner or take 60mg of codeine and go home. Opted for the codeine and honestly it hasn't touched the pain. I am still writhing about every 5 minutes (contractions are about 90 seconds).

Really don't think I can do this and super stressed what I'm going to be like at 6,8,10 cm.

I have tried everything. Baths. On the ball. Walking around. Sitting down. Standing up. Leaning over. Paracetamol. Hot water bottle. Nothing is helping me.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I know I'm pathetic too so don't need comments telling me how bad it's going to get and I'm in for a shock etc.

Go back to the hospital. I had an early epidural as I didn’t want any pain.

Cabezagrande · 27/10/2023 04:50

labour is so intense, you’re not at all pathetic. You’re absolutely handling this amazingly. This was me on Saturday with my back to back baby (she’s fast asleep in my arms right now), have a look at some biomechanics to try and shift her position which really helped. I ended up having an epidural at 3cm (14 hours after being induced) so I can’t tell you if it gets worse with further dilation. But it is absolutely worth it, and although the pain unbearable it is bringing your baby to you. Good luck 🤞🏻 don’t be afraid to go back to the ward for more they’re there to help you! You got this

moleeye · 27/10/2023 04:58

Oh OP, it is tough. With my first I was the same, absolute agony and was only 2-3cm. The pain was the same as when I got to 7cm.

Good luck, don't be a martyr and if you need/want more pain relief you have to ask for it.

Hope baby is here soon, will be completely worth it x

thelowestpainthresh · 27/10/2023 05:00

Thank you all ladies I can't keep up with the messages but I'm down to every 3.5 minutes with contractions for up to 90 seconds. Honestly wish I'd stayed on the ward

Sounds like your in established Labour, I'd go back in. Good luck x

Hi lovey,

I'm a midwife and these moves are the best for turning an OP baby in labour.

www.spinningbabies.com/pregnancy-birth/labor/in-labor-now/

I know there's a bit of reading, maybe there's a YouTube video you can watch instead. Just type in turning an OP baby in labour'

You are doing great. 95% of OP babies will turn in labour so try not to be disheartened. If you go back in and not in established labour get some pethidine (or whatever similar they recommend in Uk) this will allow you to sleep and pick up the energy again.

itsallnewnow · 27/10/2023 06:35

You are so close now op keep going ❤️

Mystro202 · 27/10/2023 07:21

Best of luck op, how exciting 😍 get on that gas&air !

LLInADaze · 27/10/2023 07:34

I'd go back to hospital. I personally found epidural great, I was in agony but after epidural, there was hardly any. I wish I'd had it sooner. Baby will be here soon, so exciting x

Nursemumma92 · 27/10/2023 08:25

Hoping you're back on the ward and things are progressing. My first labour was very much like this and soul destroying. Wishing you all the best ❤️

mumtotwox · 27/10/2023 13:39

How are things? @thelowestpainthresh

LolaJ87 · 27/10/2023 14:19

Gall10 · 27/10/2023 14:23

Please update us when you have your beautiful baby….we’re all rooting for you!

Gloopyhoop · 27/10/2023 14:49

Op really hope you're on your way to baby now or have him/her here 💛 I had the induction process started last Saturday and hyperstimulated from the pessary within 3 hours - hard contractions, 6-7 of them every 10 mins. They were horrible & really made me wonder how I made it through my first two births with just G&A!

Mummapenguin20 · 27/10/2023 19:07

I went from 2cm to baby in arms within 40 mins that 2cm could change within mins lovely keep going strong mumma not long now x

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/10/2023 08:55

Hope you’re doing ok and baby is here or on the way soon. It is so tough.

LLInADaze · 28/10/2023 10:42

Hope everything is good and baby here x

TheShellBeach · 28/10/2023 10:47

Back to back labour is awful!
I did it twice and I remember the horribly slow progress.

Good luck, OP. I hope you're in hospital now and having an epidural.

thelowestpainthresh · 28/10/2023 16:56

Three day labour and I only got to 8 cm by this morning. Had morphine, epidural, gas and air. They had to break my waters late last night. Epidural only worked on one side of my body so had to be redone too. Put me on the drip last night which took me from 6cm to 8cm but they couldn't get me further.

Babes heartbeat started to drop at times this morning and with that in mind and the lack of progression over such a long time they opted for c section which seemed like a kick in the teeth after such a long and painful labour. But baby boy came out, cried straight away and not a thing wrong with him. He is perfect and 7lb11 of squish.

Turns out he was back to back , sitting incorrectly against my cervix and my cord wasn't long enough so he was likely never going to get down there anyways.

All is well that ends well. For anyone in a similar situation the epidural literally saved me although it is uncomfortable with all the wires, cannulas, catheters, drips etc.

Congratulations OP!

LLInADaze · 28/10/2023 17:40

Awww so glad to see this update. Congratulations on your beautiful baby x

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/10/2023 17:42

@thelowestpainthresh Congratulations! It sounds a lot similar to my experience and is quite tough to end in a c-section after going through all that but everyone is ok that’s the main thing.

Strokethefurrywall · 28/10/2023 17:44

See OP? You weren't being a wuss!!
Massive congratulations on your new baby boy - you should be very proud of yourself for enduring everything you did for 3 days.

I hope your recovery goes smoothly and you can get some rest over the next few days.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Potatomashed · 29/10/2023 08:12
