5 days over EDD, anxious and fed up. Positive stories?

Looking for positive stories of spontaneous labour here. I’m 5 days over my EDD and had an exam yesterday which found that I was 1cm dilated but cervix is firm and still facing back.

Apart from some pinkish discharge 3 days ago and light brown discharge now, I have no signs of going into labour. Just feel a bit downhearted, which I know is irrational. Did anyone not feel anything and then labour just came on?

Yep. My ds - no signs until a "pop" feeling, trickle of waters and mild cramping at 3am. He was born at 0952. 2 days past due date. I remember that fed up feeling. I was told it was so you'd be geared up for labour rather than worrying about it. I def was! Your baby will be here soon. Until then do all you can to be good to yourself.

I went to 41/42+3/40 & 42 weeks.

I never even got to that stage before being induced.

Your body is making progress, keep the faith 41 weeks isn't unusual for a first baby.

I was 42 weeks when my waters broke and 43 weeks when DS was born.

To be overdue is healthy!! It means your baby is big and strong and happy where they are. I went 8 days overdue with dd who was born 3 months ago.
Don't let docs scare you and try to cherish these last magical days/ weeks of being as close as possible to your beautiful baby.

A normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. The due date is just a guide to care and most babies come after 40 weeks. In fact, in some countries the due date is 41 weeks so you're still 2 days early by their way of measuring.

You've plenty of time yet.

And my waters broke out of the blue both times. No warning at all.

I went to 40+12. Waters broke spontaneously. Baby born 90 minutes later.
Try to relax and enjoy the days. They will quickly feel like a lifetime away when the baby is here.

Yep, honestly thought it might never happen and I’d be pregnant forever because I had no signs then my waters broke about 2am! I really feel for you, those last few days of being pregnant are awful, everyone tells you to make the most of it but it’s really not that easy!

Although I wasn't overdue, with DD I had no signs she was due. No loss of mucus plug (like I did with DS), no aches, pains. I just woke up with contractions at around 1.30am. I forced myself back to sleep until 4am, my back waters went, then I got to hospital around 5am and was 7cm dilated. She arrived a few hours later. I'd had no indication the day before that she was going to make her merry way.

Have you had your baby, OP?

doughyparton · 29/09/2023 02:11

@TheShellBeach

yes! My LO was delivered via emergency c section at 41+2. Unfortunately I caught an infection due to waters going at 41 but they missed my waters going and by the time LO was delivered at 41 + 2, Id had PROM for 66 hours.
