Hello, I think I will be giving birth in November at the Portland can anyone from personal experience recommend an obstetrician for someone who has anxiety? I’m still 50/50 on the type of birth I want but I do have a heart condition and my placenta is close to my cervix at the moment so I may choose an elective c-section. Thank you!

I see Anthony Silverstone is still listed on their website - assuming he hasn't retired, would recommend 100%. He was recommended to my by my then GP who had trained under him but also had him deliver her own babies, which is as ringing an endorsement as you'll ever get, and thus it proved. Patrick O'Brien is also lovely - he was the registrar who delivered one of mine when things didn't quite go to plan and it all felt very safe and in control even though it wasn't the birth I had hoped for. My experiences were NHS at UCH, but no reason why they wouldn't be equally lovely when working in the private sector!

I am suprised silverstone is on their website. He deff hasn't delivered in probably over 10 years now (he did deliver me and my sister though).

I've heard good things about Karen Joash and William Dennes but i don't have personal experience with them. they were both on the list reccomended to me by a family friend whose a retired obs himself

I've personallly seen Dr Boyle as a gyno but i don't think she does deliveries. she is lovely though

We went with Joseph Aquilina and he brought in Charlotte Chaliha to cover him while he was away for the the weekend. Of course contractions started that weekend that he was away, Charlotte stepped in and managed the whole weekend and then Joseph called and also came direct from the airport and both helped together for the natural (though difficult)l vaginal delivery. No rushed advice, no caesarean to suit the surgeons holiday or private practice schedule...just superb professional first class care from the get go. Every birthday our happy health boy has we thank God for taking us to them. Without question they are both experienced, humble, gentle and on top of their field and dedicated and genuinely caring. You will not feel like you are on a business coveyor belt.
