Went from 3cm to 10cm in 10 minutes

I gave birth to my DD a few weeks ago. I was induced and my from waters breaking to delivery (emergency assisted with forceps and episiotomy) was 4 hours. I went from 3cm to 10cm in under 10 minutes. I had no time for an epidural and am quite traumatised by it all

I'm petrified of becoming pregnant again and going through labour again. Will my second labour be as quick?

Op I have very quick labours. Under 3 hours. Unless you’ve been through it no one can really understand how traumatic they are, when they’re so painful and you feel like you’ve lost control and the midwives are looking surprised!
I had a quick labour 18months ago and I vowed never to do that again. I ended up getting pregnant 9 months later and the fear of labour was so intense the midwives sent me to have sessions with a consultant midwife to unpick my fears. I was also fearful of having a c section.

in the end it was stamped all over my notes that I need an early epidural and the midwives have to be totally explicit with communicating with me. I was induced for my next birth and basically as soon as labour started I knew it wouldn’t be long. 30mins after labour started I got an epidural (just in the nick of time pain wise) and I gave birth 3 hours later. It was a much much better experience.

so I would say that there’s support available to get you through the next pregnancy and labour.

Well this thread has been a revelation, DD is 14 and finally I have an explanation for why her birth was so traumatic! 4 hours from waters breaking to delivery, no discernible contractions just (as a PP described) a constant wall of pain that rendered me unable to move or speak and then 20 minutes to go from 4 to 10cm. Ended in a panic as MW obviously didn't expect me to dilate that fast, 3rd degree tear, an episiotomy and forceps, oh and no pain relief until the spinal they gave me to stitch me up.

Definitely have the birth debrief OP, I wish I had as it might have helped me process what happened in time to have a second baby.
