Waters have broken, no contractions. 6 days now when to get induced?

Diamondbabe · 23/07/2023 14:44

My waters went on Monday and I’ve been waiting for contractions to start.

I’ve had regular no hyperinflation at the hospital and myself and baby are fine and no signs of infection.

But how long do I leave it? I really didn’t want to be induced and worried about the level of pain and escalation it often leads too.

today is my due date so baby is full term.

has anyone been through anything similar where they have waited for contractions?

thank you x

Is your worry about pain bigger than the worry for your unborn baby?

Marmite27 · 23/07/2023 17:50

I was told 24h after waters broke they wanted you to be in active labour.

Diddykong · 23/07/2023 17:51

I had to be induced for waters breaking 24 hours beforehand. My advice is just lot for epidural the minute anyone mentions the drip.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/07/2023 17:52

Gosh OP get back there and insist on at least induction but I would be insisting on a c section. This is medical negligence surely?!

WunWun · 23/07/2023 17:54

They only let me go 48 hours in this situation.

It happened before my due date so it could have taken weeks to happen naturally.

Are they monitoring the baby at least?

tescotom · 23/07/2023 17:54

I'd highly recommend the induction, you've been offered it for a reason.

My waters started trickling for 3 days, and everyday I went to the maternity suite to get checked. Each time I was told no, that's not your waters, they would of gushed Hmm

I started contractions on the 4th day. Baby born with Group B Strep. Ended up staying in for 7 days after. Which after a really uneventful and straightforward birth could of been avoided if only I'd been listened to and not sent home.

Not medical negligence when OP has declined induction, wanting to wait for baby to come naturally. But i agree, baby needs to come now.

Fatat40 · 23/07/2023 18:20

Crikey.

If this is real you need to get yourself to hospital right now. I'd be asking for c section at this stage, who knows how the baby will cope with labour when it's not got started after so long.

Other peoples stories are not dramatic to scare you, there are real risks for you and your baby right now. Don't become a statistic because of a longing for an i compliment nct style natural birth... that ship has already sailed

LoonyLois · 23/07/2023 18:24

I can’t believe they’ve let you go this long. Hope we’ve all persuaded you that you need to get it sorted now

lemonyfox · 23/07/2023 18:26

Gosh are the hospital not ringing you multiple times a day to go in??

Whether you're induced, natural labour, water birth, c section... the end goal is getting baby out safely and that should be the priority at this point. Not avoiding an induction just because you don't want one!

StampOnTheGround · 23/07/2023 18:28

Don't risk the health of you and your baby because you want them to come naturally. I always thought they'd only give it 24 hours after waters breaking before wanting to induce because of the risks.

Either way, it won't be long till you're holding your baby, so exciting!

Newnamenewname109870 · 23/07/2023 18:28

Wow only 24 hourS for me! Induction or c section id be gunning for now.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/07/2023 18:33

Mines now 8 but my waters went at 2am, 35 weeks. Went in and I was told I couldn't leave and I had 24 hours
Contractions started roughly 20+ hours later

I really wouldn't leave it to happen by itself any longer op

YallaYallaaa · 23/07/2023 18:33

All of the PPs saying they ‘don’t let you’ go more than 24hs…. They can’t force her to do anything!

It sounds like they’ve told her that induction is best, so they’re not negligent. Totally OP’s choice how much risk she wants to take.

I’d have gone for a C section days ago, hopefully OPs no responding as baby is coming now!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/07/2023 18:34

Op have you lost all your waters or have you had a slow leak for this time?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 23/07/2023 18:34

Why are you holding off induction?

Coffeaddict · 23/07/2023 18:35

They started my induction 24 hours after my waters broke and my son still ended up with an infection.

I am shocked you have been left this long.

Tiredmum100 · 23/07/2023 18:36

I spent two weeks exactly between my waters breaking at 34 weeks and dc being born at 36 weeks.

dearJayne · 23/07/2023 18:36

I'm shocked they've left you 6 days. I was told 24 hours was the absolute maximum when my waters went when I was pregnant with ds.

Tiredmum100 · 23/07/2023 18:37

Totalwasteofpaper · 23/07/2023 16:28

Is this real??????

i thought 24 was the MAX most people waited. If you were reallyreally against it hospitals let you go to 48 hours..

I would want that baby out NOW.
Sorry to be blunt but are you not worried your baby will die?

I waited 2 weeks. Dc was born at 36 weeks. I wouldn't let that happen again.

Gertrudetheadelie · 23/07/2023 18:40

My waters broke early, I was monitored and kept taking my temperature but my baby got an infection that (only initially, thankfully!) didn't respond to antibiotics. Really isn't worth the risk!

I should add that I didn't push back the induction. - I just had it when they had space for me but the gap was still enough. He's fine now and had amazing care but I wish I'd known then what I know now.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 23/07/2023 18:41

This happened twice to me (very small leak of waters too) and both times I was booked in the next day for induction.

They said they wouldn't wait longer than 24 hrs

BowiesJumper · 23/07/2023 18:50

I wasn’t allowed to go past 12hrs when mine went (also no sign of infection) but I guess it must differ trust to trust.

PatchworkElmer · 23/07/2023 18:52

You’re exposing yourself and your baby to risk of infection. Being monitored doesn’t get rid of that risk, it just means it’ll be picked up earlier. You could still end up unwell, as could baby. In your position I would’ve had induction days ago- I’m guessing they offered this and you refused it?

my waters went and I had no contractions. I had a pessary induction and it all went very smoothly- there are horror stories but sometimes it’s fine. And personally I’d take a labour with intervention over risking my baby being unwell.

IggyAce · 23/07/2023 18:55

I’m surprised they have left you so long, waters went first with both of mine I was given a date for induction 2 days later with strict instructions if my temperature spiked to return immediately. Contractions started within 12 hours both times. Also both my dcs were early
