Were you doing something when your waters broke or did they just go?

Not sure if title makes sense, what I was trying to ask is....when your waters broke was it as a result of doing something, such as standing up, sitting down, sneezing, turning over in bed, lots of movements from baby etc. etc.

Or were you just sat still watching tv and they went?

In my first pregnancy mine didn't go until well into labour and can't really remember how it happened.

Just wondering what other people's experience's were, am 38 weeks at the moment and feeling strangely obsessed by the whole waters breaking thing so please humor me.

I was watching Casino Royale. Think it was Daniel Craig in those little swimming trunks that did it.

I was lying quietly in bed reading a book and doing little bit of nipple stim! Felt a weird 'pop' and small trickle, called DH upstairs to bring me a towel before I tried to get up in case I had a flood all over our new carpet.

It stayed a trickle for a while though, but I had two big gushes while bouncing on my birthing ball during labour (both accompanied by very painful and very long contractions).

1st time: Had just woken up and was lying in bed when I felt and heard a pop, then a trickle

2nd time: exactly the same

Hi, I was in the pub when my waters broke! I realised what had happened, slightly embarrased and visited WC, then finished my drink before leaving. We were at a party with all my friends to say goodbye to friends who were going travelling - turned out everyone said goodbye and good luck to me instead - (such attention seeking behaviour!)

Our son is called Callum and when we looked at the baby name book realised that comes from COlomba - Latin for dove. The pub was called The DOve.

I was in bed, trying to go to sleep. It was around midnight.

Mine were broken the first time and the second they went whilst I was in the bath - stood up and wondered what the hell was happening - smelt like semen! (And believe me we hadn;t had sex for quite a while!)

The first time round I'd just got home from work and after calling in at the shops. I was just unloading the shopping from the car when an almighty gush appeared.

15 mins earlier and it would have been in the shop............

first time: got up to go to loo at about 4.30am. they went and i sleepily thought id wet myself (denial) he was born at 9am.

second time: dont remember. woke up at about 8am in labour, baby born within 45minutes. bit of a blur.

third time: between massive push 1 and massive push 2 of which my second stage consisted. (i wasnt messing about!)

Oh yes, I was doing something the first time. DH and I were busy practising making the next DC when there was a sudden gush. DH thought it very funny um...put me off for a bit I can tell you

Second time they broke while I was on the labour bed. All the midwives were across the other side of the room chatting to DH about his journey to the hospital, what sort of car we had etc when I had to butt in and say 'er... excuse me, waters just broken here and I am soaking wet' Thats when the midwives realised my epidural really hadn't worked at all as I couldn't see past my chest at the time.

My waters must be tough as old boots, at least the first two times they didn't break for hours after I was fully dilated, despite midwives poking and prodding at them. Both those times my labour was delayed by hours due to tough unbreakable waters.

I'd been having strong BH for about four nights previous, with nothing much during the daytime, contractions started again just after gone to bed on Thursday night. Each time I had a strong contraction I needed to go to the loo, and at 1.30, I went for a wee and just as I was about to get up, pop! woosh, felt like a waterfall had gone so I knew it was my waters but then my contractions stopped.

I came downstairs and sat on the dog's blanket whilst seeing who was about on mumsnet! Took advice to try and rest but couldn't...contractions picked up quickly considering first labour and called mw at 5am as going well (home birth). She came round about half hour later and said head wasn't engaged so had to go to hospital in case of cord prolapse.

Labour continued and we ended up having a C-section because DS head never engaged and I didn't dilate past 3cms - as a result, I just kept leaking - my poor DH spent about 12 hours mopping up fluids.

I do remember managing to get all the way to labour ward (end of long corridor ) and into the delivery room and about to take jeans off when second huge whoosh happened - all over my jeans and I remember thinking, oh no, what will I wear home?!
