I have been having period like pains and backache since friday evening, last night I had an hour and a half of really intense contractions every few minutes, that suddenly stopped, had a few this morning as well, but now back to the period like pains and backache, how long could this go on for?

Angua - good luck for tomorrow - and Monday! I really hope LO realises it is time to appear when he/she smells the delivery unit . Go with the flow. And let us know asap

Chococat · 30/03/2008 05:56

Angue - I've been lurking on this thread since the start. I was due 28th Feb and like you (and lots of other mums on here) had niggles and false alarms for a couple of weeks before EDD. Eventually ds was born 13 days late, and the evening before I was set to be induced (and after 3 sweeps) - so I sympathise with how you feel! It's blimmin tiring to walk around for a month constantly feeling that you are going to pop. Actually a similar thing happened with dd (she was suddenly born literally a few hours before my appointment to be induced!) so you never know!

Good luck today, keep positive and focus on that you will very soon meet your baby, one way or another.

Am sending lots of positive labour vibes and look forward to hearing when lo does arrive.

ps, Happy Anniversary - maybe lo was waiting for that special date?!

Chococat · 30/03/2008 05:58

sorry - Angua not Angue - am typing one-fingered!

Peachy · 30/03/2008 07:52

Good luck Angua !

I am not a happy bunny today. Possibly need soe doula-y advice re positioning as well.

Dh told me last night to have a nap whilst he cleared up, I ahd cooked etc so thought fair enough and did so- woke about 9 and the place was a tip! he'd not looked at clearning up, but was building a lego model (alone- boys watching a film). Said he'd do it when he finished, is aid well we'll do it together- except he finished at 11, 6 hours. He was getting anrky with me as well as his shift re-starts tonight and he was hoping not to go in as his Manager has arranged cover this week but not longer- so I should have had baby now apparently .

Anyway, about 10 started feelingr eally narky and PMT-ish so rubbed in loads of lavender oilo (myself, DH still bvuilding bloody lego) and went upa t 11.

About 5 (BST) woke up with good contractions- real period pain like draggys ensations, relaxed into them and they were strong and regular. Thought if I have 4 more I shall wake DH. Had 4 more, but then got an awful pain in my back which I immediately recognised as being the relics of an old coccyx injury. The pain from that became sosevere that I had to get up, and I just couldn't find any position that would relieve it- bendning over a birth ball, whatever. After a while I felt baby shift dramatically, and it was as if he'd been stuck against the coccyx and given up. contractions stopped after that and his head went quite high. So maybe need advice on getting past that point?

Couldn't resettle due to Dh's snoring so only one up, with a mountain of housework to do (DH won't do it today as he's back at work tonight. Also have killer level PMT again, really bad. And the childcare for ds1 and ds2 for thsi week fell througha s the application form / cheque got lost in the post (fottball scheme) and the places all got allocated, even though I applied early- they dont let you know until Friday for a MOnday start and by then it was too late.

Of course, with the PMT everything seems ten times worse but grrrrrrrrr

Peachy · 30/03/2008 08:21

have e-mailed odula for advice, checked the coccyx thing on Google and found that it can happen they get stuck there, and it can cause major episiotomy and forceps (happened to paula radcliffe, apparently).

Oh joy!

MarsLady · 30/03/2008 09:51

Peachy... wait on your doula darling. Just because Paula had forceps doesn't mean that you will.

I currently have a starting and stopping client. sigh.... I hope it establishes because I have perfect childcare for today!

HolidaysQueen · 30/03/2008 09:59

Oh Peachy - sounds like you've had a rotten evening and night with one thing and another. Hugs coming your way.

I'm pretty sure I'm in early labour, but I'm half expecting it to slow down or stop. I went to bed with a dull backache last night and had two obvious contractions about 10 mins apart as I settled down. I slept fitfully and had more contractions of similar intensity (waves of period-like pain, manageable) throughout the night, although I didn't really take note of their regularity as I was trying to rest and sleep where possible. I also had another show.

At about 7-7.30 I had a few that were a bit more uncomfortable so got up as I felt a bit dizzy and dehydrated from a bad night's sleep and thought that might be why they felt a bit worse. I felt better after some breakfast, and they are back to being very manageable - about 10 mins apart give or take, waves of pain but not having to adjust my breathing, speaking or position etc. I'm off for a bath now, and will see how it goes - guess it will be a while yet and could slow down but I'm just pleased that things seem to be slowly kicking in.

Fingers crossed!

AnguaVonUberwald · 30/03/2008 14:14

Ladies, you really made me laugh and feel supported with your comment which is exactly what I needed, especially as my mother has apparently gone out for the day/evening without even phoning to wish me good luck!!

Anyway, absolutly no sign of baby coming naturally, so just waiting to call the hospital at 6, to make sure we can still go in!

Been out and bought lots of snacks/rolls etc to get Mr Angua through the process. I have told him he has to inform mumsnet, so if necessary, will talk him through how to do it over the phone while he is on the computer.

Will hold the boyscouts in reserve, I think if they brough chocolate biscuits, and used a sterile knife, then I could cope with that!!!

HolidaysQueen · 30/03/2008 15:31

Good luck, Angua!

I'm currently experiencing contractions every 4 mins but they are pretty manageable with a bit of hip wiggling and low level TENS machine. Spoke to hospital and they said it may be that I'm not in established labour yet... Hmmm...

Lulumama · 30/03/2008 15:32

best of luck , HQ.. sounds good !!

looking forward to your updates via DH, angua x

c4it · 30/03/2008 17:34

Good luck Agua and HQ!

Sorry not posted for a while - struggling to referree between my Mother and DP and stop DD1 trying to hurt the baby! She was really good to start with but now wants everything he has, such as the cushion I balanced him on the sofa. She nearly kicked him in the head in front of the mw yesterday .

Anyone got any tips for sore nipples? Am in absolute agony on 1 side. Trying Lansinoh and Rescue Remedy.

fryalot · 30/03/2008 18:18

good luck, HQ, fingers crossed that those contractions keep coming, and are good ones!

Angua - Have you rang the hospital? Are you still going in? Good luck for tomorrow, we'll be thinking of you (and heading off the boy scouts with their swiss army caesarian cutting knives )

c4it - Lanisoh is good, and you can get nipple guards which I haven't tried, but others have recommended them. Your nipples will start to toughen up really quickly now. If you can get past this painful bit, you'll be well away.

Try to be topless as much as poss - I remember that pain from dd1 and you have my sympathy, it is horrible

nezelette · 30/03/2008 18:43

Angua - good luck!!! Can't wait for news!

HQ - keep us posted too! Sounds good!!

fitnfortyone · 30/03/2008 19:08

fryalot · 31/03/2008 07:49

thinking of angua and HQ this morning...

looking forward to birth announcements from them both...

MerlinsBeard · 31/03/2008 09:52

c4...i couldn't find lansinoh cream but i found kamillosan which helped with sore nipples. I would agree to check the latch though, baby monster and I had a few latching issues (still do) and by me adjusting how he latched we muddled thru.

The going withouta bra thing is useful too but only if you don't tend to leak much lol!!!

WIll hunt out my thread about latching, thre are some useful links on there including videos.

MerlinsBeard · 31/03/2008 09:53

Opps, didn't finish!

Angua and HQ, thinking of you both today. Just a few hours until you get to hold your LO ANgua did you teach mrVonUberwald (Captain carrot?!) to MN??

MerlinsBeard · 31/03/2008 10:07

MW ben ytoday, all OK but she doesn't seem too convinced I will be having baby any time soon. Sweep booked Monday, induction mid week thereafter. Not bothered about induction as a process as have ahd one that went well, but after preparing for a homebirth and not having any more babies will be sad- not to mention quite likely alone as DH will be with boys . Doula only allowed limited access to hospital.

Ah well, whatever will be and all that.

RE Angua's username,Dh thinks I should adopt the username AdoraBelledearheart as apaprntly I am her in all but the smoking

charming!

but sadly, probably bang on accuarte LOL
