Anyone who's recently had a baby - How many midwife/HV visits do you have after birth ?

I'm due DC2 and I can't remember how often people came to our house in the first few weeks but I remember it was quite a lot!

Does anyone who's recently had a baby remember what days the HV and midwife visit you? I'm a little bit OCD and really want to know 😅

Midwife (I think it is?) visits the next day you are home.

Health visitor then visits you a few days later.

I think it's maybe 2 or 3 in the first couple of weeks. It's not lots.

Then health visits are usually you going to a clinic, I had some extra ones at my house but most people in my area had to go to the HV clinic.

My area it’s all at the clinic. The midwifes are only over the road so very handy and I was there a lot as baby had some cord issues. I’ve never seen the HV in person but they’re clinic based too. You’d probably be best asking people local to you as it seems quite variable!

I have a 4 month old who was born on a Saturday. We went home on Sunday, midwife came on Monday, HV came on Thursday and then 6 weeks after that too. That’s been it so far!

Had one a few weeks ago and had forgotten how many people you see afterwards.

Midwife came here day after we got home
Went to midwife at clinic on day 5
Midwife came here a week later
HV came here week after birth then back couple of days later and again a week later

I had some complications I won’t go into which is why we had the second midwife home visit and the HV came one extra visit to monitor baby’s weight.

HV arranged appointments and came on time. Midwives showed up randomly and the clinic appointment was massively behind schedule and a bit of a faff.

We’ve got 6 week check up with the GP in week 7 and HV same week I think. Then usual baby vaccinations after.

The other thing I’d forgotten is how everyone you meet wants to discuss contraception and your pelvic floor. Everyone. Every time.

Nearly two week old here - midwife came on day 5 and day 10 and discharged us from their care as weight was above birth weight etc. HV then came out a couple of days later and we'll next see them at 6-8 weeks.

We did have more midwife and health visitor appointments with my first though as he dropped a high % of birth weight and then took a while to regain.

My baby was born on a Friday, midwife was due to come on Monday but I had to go back into hospital as a bit of an emergency that day, so she ended up coming on the Wednesday (day 5) and again on day 10. They came to my home but I live 3 doors from the clinic, so maybe I'd have had to go to the clinic if I'd lived further away? Health visitor came on day 12 and someone came to check his hearing when he was 2 weeks old.

End of March 2020 baby.

Think we saw one woman for five minutes, who did a heel prick and one weigh. She phoned first and coughed on the phone. I was so tense the whole time I bleached everything she’d touched. Nobody again until 18 months. Bit jealous of all the people who get a normal experience 😢

FeedMeCoffeeOrGin · 27/04/2023 20:57

So I had:

Midwife day after coming home.
Midwife on day 8 to do blood spot test on baby.
Midwife appointment (at local clinic) on day 11 to sign off with them.
Health visitor day 13.
Health visitor about 2ish weeks later but I don't think this one is standard (baby had a tongue tie so weight was being monitored).

Felt like a lot overall, but I'm generally an introvert and hate people I don't know in my space 😅

Baby now 8 months and I've had nothing since.

iliketobooogie · 27/04/2023 21:10

Thanks all. I think there will be around 3/4 visits all being well in that case.

I am totally an introvert and find that random people coming into my house totally puts me on edge, even if they're there to help!
I'll be glad when they're done tbh!!

I only had 1 visit at home the rest we chose to go and see the midwives as got us up and out

mrshenny · 28/04/2023 03:24

I had a baby nearly 4 weeks ago (via section)

Baby born day 0
Went home day 1
Midwife came day 2 (or 1?)
Midwife came and weighed and BF support day 3
Went to midwife clinic day 5 to be weighed
Then had two further midwife appts as my community midwife is an angel and I've had horrible feeding issues.

I got discharged the other day!

Also had face to face breastfeeding support several times at clinics and at home.

I've definitely needed the extra support, struggling through cracked and painful nipples for weeks, still am now 😩

mrshenny · 28/04/2023 03:25

Oh also had a HV visit at home too xx
