I’ll keep this short but I’m having issues. I delivered my baby 5 months ago by emergency c section, had a huge haemorrhage and needed opened back up In theatre so they could stop the bleeding. I went home some hours later bleeding was minimal at first then got heavier, lasted 16 weeks, was back and forwards to drs had swabs taken to check infection was not that, I was put on the pill it made it worse so I stopped it got very heavy then stopped after 2 weeks, I went back on the pill. For 3 weeks I did not bleed, then one day it started again, that was 7 weeks ago and it’s not stopped since. Iv been back to the drs today and she believe I have retained products and need a scan on my womb to see what’s going on here. I’m scared but surly 5 months have went by yes iv had some warning signs that something isn’t right here but surly if I had retained products I’d have had a deadly infection by now???

so my question is…. Did anyone have or heard of anyone having retained products after an emergency c section and not finding out for 5 months ?

Hi, I had retained parts of the placenta but mine was discovered after 2 months.

I had a straightforward planned c-section which was all going well until 5 mins after baby was born when I suddenly haemorrhaged and the room went nuts. Alarms going off, drips going into my feet, extra consultants coming in etc. I ended up losing over 2.5 litres of blood in the end.

I went home after 3 nights but had persistent very heavy bleeding which I was told was normal by the midwife at the home sign off even though I knew it wasn’t!

This lasted for a few weeks and I was then told I had a womb infection and given antibiotics. It still wasn’t clearing up after finishing the antibiotics, and I was feeling dreadful. It was only discovered after couldn’t get through to the doctors and so I instead went to the hospital where I was transferred back to antenatal where they scanned me and could see that things weren’t right.

It was decided that I needed a D&C as I had retained products but this was risky as after my C section the consultant at the time told me that I had a paper thin uterus and warned me not to have any more children (we’d decided that we were done anyway).

I believe that at the time of my c-section the consultant was more concerned with stopping the bleeding and keeping me alive than necessarily getting everything fully out. I just wish he had warned me at the time as I then would have known to get help sooner!

Anyway, I had a D&C performed by an amazing consultant and this cured it. The op was very quick and pain free.

I really feel for you as the bleeding was horrible and I found that I couldn’t go out (we spent Christmas at home as I wasn’t confident enough to go out without fear of leaking).

I hope that you get cured soon

@ChaseTheSun oh my how awful for you!! The dr gave me an internal today and pushed on My tummy and there was a certain area that hurt on the left but iv never noticed it before as well I don’t really go prodding my lower tummy but I just feel this isn’t normal after my other children who were all born vaginally I didn’t bleed long at all with my first I bled 5 days it was like a period more than an after birth bleed. So when I got to 6 weeks I was worried o was still bleeding heavy 13 weeks still heavy 15 weeks still heavy I just thought this isn’t good at all! I also need my iron checked which no doubt will be low and I’ll have to go back on those dreadful pills
