Hi all,

Very excited and felt so lucky to be pregnant after undergoing IVF.
unfortunately at 30 weeks pregnant i have found out I have severe polyhydroamnios (excess amniotic fluid) and will require extra surveillance and possibly extra support during Labour.
Initially my plan was to (hopefully) have baby in midwife led unit which was right beside Labour ward.
I have sought advice from experienced medical colleagues and friends and have decided to go private as feel we will get extra surveillance and continuity with private consultant.

I plan to have baby at John Radcliffe (JR) in Oxford. I am due to have first appointment with consultant in a couple days. Have been advised to contact the private patient department re room as the hospital itself organised that- I am still waiting on a reply. I am aware if you just pay for private room, it is first come first served. Does anyone have know/ have any experience if this is still the case if you are having complete care/ birth privately?

Hi @KrisD2023 , hope you, your baby and the family are doing well :D

I just wanted to get in touch and see if I can get your 2 cents on how your birthing journey has been with JR? My wife and I live in Oxford and will probably be delivering in JR as well and wanted to know what we're walking into.

Some specific questions I have are:

  • Am I allowed to stay overnight with my wife in the hospital post birth (or does she need to be in a private room for me to stay)
  • How much do they charge per night if we ask for a private room
  • How many nights do they keep you for

Would really appreciate any insights, thanks in advance!
