Pre Eclampsia. Please reassure me :( in hospital

I'm 32 weeks and have pre eclampsia. Been in hospital 2 days so far. Started blood pressure tablets. All I'm told so far is if they start steroid injections then it means they've decided to get baby out and warned she may be in neonatal 2 months 😭

But the midwife said if with medication I stabilise I can go home with popping in for check ups.

I'm so worried. This baby is my rainbow and complete miracle.

Has anyone else had pre eclampsia and everything ok? Do you think I will get home and keep her in longer? Just need to know she has good chances to be ok :(

Now it’s been picked up I’m sure you’ll be fine, try not to worry. I developed it at 33wks, had close monitoring, couple of hospital stays and BP medication. She stayed in until 39 wks when she was going to be induced for being small but decided to come out then anyway. She was on the small side (5lb 8) but was healthy and is now a strapping nearly 15 year old

You and the baby have an excellent chance of being fine now that it is being controlled. I was induced at 33 weeks as BP was climbing fast. My daughter was in NICU for just 3 weeks as she was breathing on her own and took to a bottle even though she was tiny. She is a strapping 21 year old now. Stay strong.

You’ll be fine I’m sure! I was born at 32 weeks vis EMCS.as my mum had pre eclampsia. I was in the hospital for a week or so and I’m absolutely fine.

This was in the 80s so Im sure it’s even better now and the fact yours is being monitored makes it even safer.

Best of luck!

Yes, I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy, first discovered at 32 weeks also.

I was in for 4 days while they discovered it and then they let me go home as long as I was always supervised and we went to the hospital every other day until the birth for blood pressure, urine and blood checks.

I made it to 36 weeks and had unexplained bleeding so they induced. Unfortunately it ended in an EMCS as labour didn’t progress and baby was in NICU but only for a couple of days.

She’s now a healthy 2 year old and I’m pregnant with my second 😊

Obviously everyone’s experience is different but the main thing is that they’ve found it - the big danger with preeclampsia is when it goes undiagnosed.

My preemie pre-eclampsia baby is currently sat in his bedroom fuming because “teenage hormones”.

My friend had pre eclampsia snd was very poorly, and her baby was born at 27 weeks that baby Is now 23 years old, her baby came out of hospital a week before her due date.
I had pre eclampsia at 35 weeks and had baby at 37 weeks, he's now 26, it took a few weeks for my feet to go back to normal, and me and my baby were in hospital together for 5 days.
They will look after you , good luck with everything.

I've had it twice (I had symptoms the third time too).
I have 3 amazing healthy children. A couple born earlier than they should. You are 100% in the right place.
Rest up and watch whatever you can on the telly or iPad. Try (I know it's hard) not to panic.
If your little one comes early they'll look after it amazingly.
I really feel for you as I've been you at this exact point too.
Keep us updated. x

I should add, he was in nicu 48 hours or so then with me, we stayed in over a week. I’d been admitted “just to be monitored” then the next day told I wouldn’t be leaving without my baby. That really upset me because I didn’t feel ready at all and hadn’t started my ML.

The other thing which really upset me was that his “leaving hospital outfit” was way too big (sounds pathetic I know) and we had to source preemie clothes last minute. So if you’re there in hospital, you might want to do a wee bit of shopping. Also for preemie nappies!

britespark1 · 24/02/2023 09:37

I had it twice which apparently is unusual but with lots of extra monitoring everything was fine. First baby induced at 39 weeks and a healthy 8lbs, second came spontaneously right before I was about to be induced and he was 8lb 12.

newwings · 24/02/2023 09:43

It's been detected in good time that's the main thing. You will be fine and so will your baby.

Hope551 · 24/02/2023 09:54

Thank you 😊 I'm having blood test repeated again today :) blood pressure has come down. So hopefully all in the right direction.

But oh my, I had never felt so Ill. It developed so rapidly, my head was such agony and I couldn't stop being sick. My face completely blew up 😭😭

Oh bless you. These Doctors and Nurses have seen it all before and will be amazing.
I didn't want to say before but it might reassure you to know that I had DD2 at 33 weeks. She weighed 3 pounds 4 oz. She's now in her teens and an absolute rockstar. Plus people used to tell me about their micro-preemies which were even tinier that were huge rugby players and all sorts!
You're in the best place, keep cooking and if it's time then you're going to be well looked after x
