How long did you stay in the pool after birth?

Did the blood/ goo etc bother you? Some of the pools on OBEM seem so dark and gruesome!

Is getting out of the pool after birth sore/ difficult?

When I had a water birth the water was still relatively clean afterwards. I think the water will only turn red if you've had a tear which is bleeding, or your placenta starts to detach. My friend tore during her water birth and she said the pool looked like there had been a shark attack! I got out after 10 mins to deliver the placenta on the bed. The pool definitely wasn't gory or messy or anything in my case!

I was out pretty quickly - i realised later that it was to check bleeding (2nd degree tear) but honestly I didn't notice as I literally couldn't take my eyes off of DS for the first hour or so.

My water surprisingly stayed clean, I didn't intend to deliver in the pool as the ick factor put me off but he came too quick. Since my placenta came later I found the water to be clean. I got the injection for the placenta and moved on to dry land within 5 minutes I'd say? As soon as the cord stopped pulsing and was cut I got out.

The umbilical cord for my boy (8 days old today) was too short for me to bring him to my chest. I had to cradle him to my vag and stand up to keep him out of the water. I then had the injection to help with the placenta and was out of the pool within a few minutes. It was enough time in the pool for my husband to tell me he was a boy and to cut the umbilical cord. There was a bit of blood when they were draining the pool but nothing too grim as I'd already lost my waters. I think the only thing in the pool was my bloody show.

I'd say it was a few minutes.

The water wasn't overly mucky as far as I can remember.

I wasn't prepared for getting out though. The side of the pool seemed really high and I still had the cord hanging down on top of feeling a wit woozy. 🙈

The pool was still filling by the time DS2 arrived (short and sharp) so I delivered the placenta and we hopped in (actually no hopping was involved!). Midwife went to get tea and toast and me and DS stayed in there for ages.
It was glorious and I was able to give hairy goopy ds a bit of a wash

I had my second in water and it was wonderful.

My waters went in the pool just as I started pushing.

Water was still clear once I'd delivered and they drained the pool immediately. I was wrapped in lots of towels.

They injected me for the placenta but I delivered that before they'd finished the injection. Then they helped me out the pool.

Reading this expecting someone to say I went for a swim.

A few minutes I think. The cord was cut while I was still in the pool and then DH held DD while I got out. Then I delivered the placenta out of the pool.

PinkPlantCase · 08/12/2022 21:51

Around 30 minutes afterwards I think, I birthed the placenta in the pool and then got out afterwards.

The water was clear until the placenta came out and that brings blood with it!

I am really glad I delivered in the pool though, I hope I get to do it again some day.
