Almost 40weeks - can I request more monitoring?

Hi there,

I am almost 40weeks and looking to have a VBAC. I’m based in London and in terms of checks, I would only have one at 40 and one at 41 weeks which I think it’s not enough- in many other countries outside UK they monitor you every other day once you are overdue.
Is that something I can request? Can I ask for my baby to be monitored more often? Currently everything is well with my pregnancy.

Do you have any specific concerns? Would you pay for extra checks?

No concerns, just want to know the baby is fine. I would pay for extra check ms yes but I had a look online and I couldn’t find anything suitable apart from an ultrasound which doesn’t really help at this stage of pregnancy as the baby is too big for them to see much…

Honestly I totally understand that you are anxious but I think it's unlikely they'll bring you and give you more appointments for that reason alone.

I wanted a VBAC but I would never have gone overdue. The higher risk of rupture would never have let me. I ended up having a second c section at 39 weeks
