Any doulas in Northumberland? also looking for VBAC info

Hi there

I have had an e-mail from a previous doula client of mine who will be having baby no. 2 in Northumberland. She is thinking of hiring a doula again but I live in the Cotswolds now so not exactly handy! Have checked doula UK website but wondered if anyone knew of anyone or had any personal recommendations.

She is going for a VBAC so would also love any info on how VBAC-friendly it is in that part of the world - any info on Wansbeck hospital in particular would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi. I am booked into Wansbeck. It is a lovely hospital - fairly new build and apparently one of only 2 truly "green" hospitals in the country, complete with wind turbine. Baby could be born by wind power!!

All my community midwifes recommended I go there as opposed to the Royal Victoria in Newcastle (although the RVI is very well thought of it is VERY busy and you get more time and attention at Wansbeck). All the delivery rooms are ensuite. The entire place is spotless. The midwife team is stable and SO friendly.

Because lots of Northumberland is remote there are midwife led units around the county in other county towns such as Hexham, and you would transfer to Wansbeck if needed as the only consultant led unit in the county, for sections or SCBU etc.

My friend acheived VBAC here so it can be done! But I don't know the rates.

PS There is a leaflet about the trust maternity services here:

mrsmalumbas · 14/01/2008 16:36

ihateironing - thanks I have passed the web link onto my client (or ex-client, I should say)

Lulumama - thanks, only asked because normally I get an e-mail when a new student signs up in the UK but we had a few go astray. If she didn't get a "welcome" message from me then that's why! Please let her know she can always e-mail me at [email protected] if she needs anything!
