Process induction - feeling hopeless and bored out of my mind!

I have read through countless threads on this since last night and just posting for company and some positive stories really! In for induction (40+3 today). Had propess pessary put in at 10.30pm last night, absolutely no signs of anything whatsoever still 😩 feeling really hopeless. Dd (10) was 10 days overdue and labour was 39 hours start to finish so pretty slow.. my cervix just doesn't seem willing to play ball. Baby is v.low and has been for a while, but my cervix just doesn't seem to want to open! I've had 4 sweep attempts now (last Monday, Thursday, Sunday and last night), all unable to be done as cervix wasn't dilated at all. Bored out of my mind.. I'd feel so much better if SOMETHING was happening, even just weak contractions really far apart.. but nothing. Would really appreciate some success stories 🙏

Have you tried drinking plenty of Raspberry Leaf Tea as well @Cheekypeach? It won't bring the Labour on but may help to soften your cervix Smile

BunnyRuddington · 09/02/2022 08:56

Sorry didn't meant to tag you Cheeky. My last post was for @hullaballoo19 Smile

ah I remember when I was in hospital in the same situation. They wouldn't let me home as 'second babies come fast' errrrr not my baby! Two very boring days. Did some wandering round the hospital. Read some magazines. Ate some rubbish hospital food.
I had the drip and an epidural and it was all fine and straightforward birth.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I'm just feeling so so fed up ☹️ just had a big cry.. next examination at 12ish so I'll see where I'm at then.

@BunnyRuddington I haven't had raspberry leaf tea this time round (I did drink it during my first pregnancy, didn't seem to make any difference), but I thought it needed to build up in your system to be effective so figured it wasn't worth it at this point.

I’m not surprised you’re upset. It’s such a stressful time.

And stress is actually going to stop you going into labour. How far from the hospital are you?

When I had my second I was booked for an induction at 42 weeks. Had an examination at 41+6. Was told I was 2-3 cm already but not a twinge. I asked to go home thinking I’d be induced the next day and didn’t want to stay in hospital.
My labour literally started in the car park as I left 😂 this was about 7pm. Went home, thought it’d be ages as first baby was 36 hours. I had baby in my arms just after midnight.

@Sexnotgender I live about 25 minute drive from the hospital. I would've much preferred an outpatient induction but they told me it had to be inpatient because it's being done for medical reasons rather than just being overdue. There has to be a 24 hour break after 2 prostin doses so perhaps they'll let me go home for the break

Update - midwife examined me and said it was a very weird exam, my cervix is really thin but just not dilating at all. Occurred to me to ask (I had mentioned previously during my pregnancy and it should be in my notes) whether it could be anything to do with the fact that I had a LEEP a few years ago.. seems that it very well could be the problem and that I'm not dilating because of scar tissue on my cervix!

OP posts:
BunnyRuddington · 09/02/2022 19:56

What the plan now then @hullaballoo19? I know you don't want a section but would a planned one be ok at this point given the scar tissue?

hullaballoo19 · 09/02/2022 20:21

They haven't mentioned csection yet @BunnyRuddington but wonder if they will tomorrow.. For now the plan is to have another prostin pessary tomorrow morning, then the exam 6hrs later will be done by a dr (rather than a midwife) and I'll discuss options with them depending on how it's looking.

Just adding sympathy @hullaballoo19 I was where you are 12 and a bit years ago. First pessary 4.30pm Monday, 2 more pessary and the drip later- finally born 830am Wednesday.

They will advise the drip if you get tired or they think a section is likely as if need be they can top it up rather than knocking you out completely.

You'll get there.... baby will be here by the end if the week! Exciting times!!

BunnyRuddington · 09/02/2022 20:31

Hope you either manage to have your LO or get some sleep overnight Thanks

Hi there, I’ve had 2 inductions but have not had any pessaries I’m afraid.

With my first I was already 3cm dilated so they broke my waters and put my on the drip, baby was born within 6hours, gas and air only for pain relief and just a graze. With my second I was 5cm dilated so again, no pessaries. They broke my waters and baby was born within 2hrs. No tears and used gas and air for pain relief. I had wonderful birthing experiences both times despite being inductions.

Hope all progresses well for you, not long until you will have your sweet little baby in your arms ❤️ Good luck

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 09/02/2022 20:54

Had propess induction with my 1st baby. I ended up over contracting, it was unbearable, I would even allow them to touch me to take it out, I told them I was doing it!! After 14.5 hours in labour, I had to have an emergency section as baby was in distress (meconium) and I wasn't progressing past 3 cm dilated. They had just put the drop in when they realised I need to have a section.

hullaballoo19 · 09/02/2022 21:05

Thanks everyone ❤️

KateTheEighth · 09/02/2022 21:13

Good luck OP Thanks

I had a similar situation to you and I would really recommend trying to get some sleep if you possibly can

Don't be afraid to ask about a c section. I stuck with the induction and ended up with an em section in the end and I wish I had asked about a section when the induction wasn't progressing

Wishing you all the best

hullaballoo19 · 10/02/2022 07:58

Thanks @KateTheEighth I did manage to get more sleep last night 👍 no change this morning, I've had the pessary put in and will have another exam and chat with dr around lunchtime. Convinced they're going to tell me I need a csection...

OP posts:
Pyri · 10/02/2022 08:02

Good luck OP. Induction is pretty tough isn’t it, wishing you all the best and hope your baby is here soon

KateTheEighth · 10/02/2022 08:27

Please don't worry if they suggest a c section. You will be absolutely fine.

Hopefully it won't be long now Smile

Branleuse · 10/02/2022 08:31

I think if all of these induction techniques are not working, then id ask for a section. Id worry that a short placenta might stop baby pushing on your cervix to open it

hullaballoo19 · 10/02/2022 09:25

Thanks all 😊

Lost some mucous plug this morning 🥳 fingers crossed things will get going now

OP posts:
BunnyRuddington · 10/02/2022 09:28

Glad that you've got some sleep and the plug has come away.

hullaballoo19 · 10/02/2022 17:14

Thanks @BunnyRuddington though no progress with dilation much to my disappointment.. still waiting to speak with dr...

OP posts:
Cheekypeach · 10/02/2022 18:47

Sorry to hear that OP. Would a cook balloon be an option? Or the drip?

BunnyRuddington · 10/02/2022 19:57

Sorry about that @Cheekypeach. Have you managed to speak to a Doctor yet? Hoping you have.

looklikeanelephant · 11/02/2022 08:20

Hope everything is going well OP Thanks
