Process induction - feeling hopeless and bored out of my mind!

I have read through countless threads on this since last night and just posting for company and some positive stories really! In for induction (40+3 today). Had propess pessary put in at 10.30pm last night, absolutely no signs of anything whatsoever still 😩 feeling really hopeless. Dd (10) was 10 days overdue and labour was 39 hours start to finish so pretty slow.. my cervix just doesn't seem willing to play ball. Baby is v.low and has been for a while, but my cervix just doesn't seem to want to open! I've had 4 sweep attempts now (last Monday, Thursday, Sunday and last night), all unable to be done as cervix wasn't dilated at all. Bored out of my mind.. I'd feel so much better if SOMETHING was happening, even just weak contractions really far apart.. but nothing. Would really appreciate some success stories 🙏

Can't offer any success stories sorry. Not because it went wrong but I just never got that far.

I can offer a bit of complaint though.

What's happening now? Smile

hullaballoo19 · 08/02/2022 15:49

Thanks @BunnyRuddington 😊

Still nothing happening.. a lot of the threads I've read have had things kicking off for people after having the second pessary put in so fingers crossed for that! I'd hoped the first would be enough as I've had a successful spontaneous vaginal delivery before, but apparently not 🙁

I had propress Saturday night then 24 hours later the pessary and the contractions started. Waters broke Monday night and baby born 9am Tuesday. Didn't need second or third pessary or the hormone drip if that counts as successful?

YummieMummyof3 · 08/02/2022 15:56

I know it's so frustrating when nothing seems to be happening Flowers
Have they offered put you on a drip to speed things up?
Are you in hospital?

hullaballoo19 · 08/02/2022 16:01

Definitely counts as successful @Pebbles218 😊 congratulations and thanks for replying

Thanks, definitely frustrating @YummieMummyof3
I'm in the hospital yes, and they haven't offered the drip but I really want to avoid that anyway 😬 too many people I know say such horrid things about the drip and I'd like to avoid an epidural which I think it's much more likely to be necessary if having the drip as the contractions are so strong. Did you have the drip? How was it for you?

It's hard going though even without second and third pessaries. Long and boring and can be uncomfortable in a mixed ward. If they do offer the drip, get some strong pain relief in you beforehand. I needed strong pain relief once the contractions started. Hope it gets going soon!!!

YummieMummyof3 · 08/02/2022 16:12

Hi I hope you are having better treatment than I did. They did not offer me a drip. I had several sweeps and pessary. I was waiting for what seems an eternity. When it finally happened he arrived very quickly.
However, the midwives were not very nice. They didn't treat me very well. I trust that the staff treat you well

EcoCustard · 08/02/2022 16:12

Dc4 was propess induction. It did nothing, not even a twinge and I walked and bounced almost non stop. However after removal I had gotten to 6 cms dilated and was offered a sweep. To see if it would get things going, it did contractions started immediately, went to Labour ward and they broke my waters and 2hours later Dc4 arrived. I had little monitoring and no intervention. Probably my best birth. Dc3 was also propess induction and I had two, neither worked and I went on to have the drip. It wasn’t pleasant but she arrived 20 minutes after the drip went in so not long. I had no pain relief for any of mine however would I liked some for dc3 but didn’t get any for numerous reasons.

Is there a Costa at the hospital where you can have a peppermint tea? I had the pessary induction. The pessary had been in for 18 hours when we walked to the on site Costa and I had a peppermint tea. Contractions started on the way back to the ward and baby was born less than 12 hours later. I think it was definitely the peppermint tea Grin Joke, I realise I was very lucky with my induction.

I’d had a failed sweep two days before. Literally nothing happened with the pessary until on the way back to the ward and contractions were regular straight away. Two hours after contractions started my cervix was still facing back so I thought it was going to be a long process but I progressed really quickly. Fingers crossed it works for you soon.

Danikm151 · 08/02/2022 16:46

24 hours for the pessary to work for me, they were just about to put a new one in and realised I was 4cm!
Induction is boring and lonely!

SaraKitty · 08/02/2022 19:58

Nothing really happens until they can break your waters , it took two pessaries for me to get to the point where they could do that . Then they gave me a bit of drip and it took off from there . Hoping it goes quickly at that stage for you as it’s second baby x

Sexnotgender · 08/02/2022 20:01

You’re only 40+3, why the rush to get labour going? I had DS at 42 weeks exactly.

WalkingOnSonshine · 08/02/2022 20:04

Hoping things have moved for you!

I had the first pessary & nothing happened for 24 hrs. My waters went about 15 mins after they put the second pessary in.

That was about 11am and DS was born at 1am. I did need the drip toward the end, as DS was back to back so I wasn’t getting proper contractions so didn’t know when to push. The drip induced “proper” contractions.

hullaballoo19 · 08/02/2022 21:05

Thanks everyone for responses 😊 still not much been happening but was on the monitor at half 7ish and was showing some tightenings that I couldn't feel. Since then I've had some very mild twinges/cramps so hopefully things are starting to happen.. I'm very much hoping when they examine at half 10ish that they'll tell me I'm dilated at least a bit! Going to roll around and bounce on the ball til then I think

OP posts:
hullaballoo19 · 08/02/2022 21:09

@Sexnotgender they advised it as her growth has slowed over the past month and I've had 2 episodes of reduced movement in a 4 week period. Because of these they suspect placenta insufficiency and didn't want me to go past 40 weeks. I delayed it a few days in the hope I'd start by myself but no luck. Induction was something I really really wanted to avoid, but my anxiety around the placenta failing has been quite stressful and my decision to go ahead was based on knowing that if anything did happen I would regret not acting far far more than I would regret an induction 🤷‍♀️

Sexnotgender · 08/02/2022 21:14

God yes better to try and get going than wait too long if you’re concerned. Hope all goes well.

BunnyRuddington · 08/02/2022 21:58

Oh so glad you're having some cramps. Hopefully things will get going pretty soon!

hullaballoo19 · 09/02/2022 00:38

No progress really ☹️ midwife has given me the prostin pessary now..

OP posts:
hullaballoo19 · 09/02/2022 06:33

Update, just had second dose of prostin. My cervix has shortened since the dose last night but still no dilation..

Has anyone ever stopped the induction process? I'm torn between keeping going and accepting that my body just isn't ready yet.. my main concern is really not wanting to go on the drip, and being worried about ending up having to have a csection if things won't progress. I'm happy to have a csection in an emergency, but only in an emergency..

OP posts:
Dogt17 · 09/02/2022 07:32

I know you don’t want the drip but if you have to have it I’d recommend getting an epidural before. I had to have the drip with DC1 after the pessary wouldn’t take me further than 2cms. The drip really was something else! Good luck

hullaballoo19 · 09/02/2022 07:46

Thanks @Dogt17 yes I've been advised of that by people I know who've had the drip 👍

OP posts:
BunnyRuddington · 09/02/2022 08:42

If you're thinking of stopping the process and you're having issues with your placenta, I think you need to talk everything through with a MW or Dr. Nobody on here is going to fully understand any risks Thanks

Cheekypeach · 09/02/2022 08:44

I was induced due to placenta insufficiency at 36 weeks. It took them 4 days to get me to the point where they could break my waters & put me on the drip. But was then an uneventful 12 hour labour. In my experience, how long it takes to tip you into labour isn’t indicative of the labour itself. I would grit my teeth & continue, I know it’s really frustrating.
