Hi - has anyone had any experience with this company www.findadoula.org.uk/
I was wondering about looking into their training course as it is fairly local to me but wanted to make sure they are reputable first. Thanks.

If it's an approved Doula UK course then it will have been vetted by them and means you can register with Doula UK after you've done the course. They don't just approve any old course HTH.

thanks - Daisy - I checked Doula UK and could not see anything about them so I guess that means it is not recognised.

Having looked at their website I would be a bit wary I think - looks as though 'they' are trying to set up a doula agency a bit like British Doulas and it isn't clear that the 'managing director' actually has any doula experience herself Doula UK certainly isn't the be all and end all, but personally I would want to do a course that at least gave me the option of registering with them. Nurturing Birth do training courses throughout the UK too.

Company formed in Nov 2007, registered address still seems to be that of the company formation outfit rather than the business address. Eager to "franchise", eager to hire professional doulas, not a lot else apart from that.

MarsyChristmas · 29/12/2007 19:28

Not DUK recognised. Try looking on the Doula UK and you will see their recognised courses.

If you mean doula consultancy services ltd, then they are NOT DUK recognised.

MarsyChristmas · 29/12/2007 19:30

Birth Consultancy... DUK recognised

There is another company with a very similar name, be careful not to be caught you. Birth Consultancy is run by Adela Stockton a very reputable doula, doula trainer.

catinthehat · 29/12/2007 19:44

Head honcho
Another of her enterprises

momentrylapseofreason · 29/12/2007 19:48

I thought the franchising bit was a bit strange - maybe they also do party plan doulas?

That sounds a little sarcastic momentrylapseofreason if you don't mind me saying so.

catinthehat · 29/12/2007 19:54

Actually, you're right, she missed a trick!

And just another wee point.... doulas (on the whole) are self-employed and don't need to buy franchises. There are no franchises. We all work. We advertise, some are on Doula UK (myself included) and we may or may not have websites.

DCS ltd are a whole other soapbox for me to stand on.

Check out DoulaUK (DUK) as I'm sure you'll find the course that suits there.

lulumama · 30/12/2007 18:42

what mars said

i had a friend who did a course with a more corporate doula company, and she was very dissatsfied and is switching to a doula uk recognised course in the new year..

i can recommend www.nurturingbirth.co.uk for a doula uk recognised course , they do them all over the UK

ihateironing · 03/01/2008 21:34
