Feel slightly "high" at onset of labour? I wonder if tonight's the night

Hi there

So I'm baking bread in the kitchen and I have a contraction and I think, This is the start, in no uncertain terms. I have another one about half an hour later. Not that it's really strong, just that i get the feeling that this is different from the two weeks of irregulars etc that I've been having. This morning I had a damp sensation and went to investigate and it was just some mucus, no pinkishness and it's not the waters, so I just put it down to discharge. (Anyone??) I am now feeling ever so slightly lightheaded, or not exactly.... but... sort of strange, a bit odd, removed from reality slightly and very very elated. Could be anything, so I am very calm and I don't feel panicy in the slightest, just a little high and my body has subtle pins and needles, sort of like a very slight buzzing. My DP is out at work christmas do and I have no need to get him back just yet, rather be on my own quietly for a while.

As I said, could just be a continuation of the pre labour I've been experiencing for two weeks, and I'll keep an eye on the contractions and dull back pain, which seeems fairly constant but I just wondered if anyone knows about this "high" feeling.

Hhhhmmmmm.

p.s am 39 weeks today.

I felt 'buzzy' when starting labour with ds2, but it could just be excitement - adrenalin pumping

santascRUMPELedsuit · 21/12/2007 19:25

Have you inhaled the yeast?
Only jesting! I don't remember feeling like that but I do remember spending the day cooking before I went into labour that night.

Sounds like a rush of hormones and adrenalin - how exciting! If it is the real deal wishing you all the best! In the meantime - rest.

ProjectIcarus · 21/12/2007 19:26

I got a bit spacey so yes this could be it!

whomovedmychocolate · 21/12/2007 19:26

Hurrah, sounds like you could be getting an early christmas present.

NAB3hundredbaubles · 21/12/2007 19:27

Rest

Drink

Relax

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/12/2007 19:28

If it doesn't kick off tonight, it sounds like it may be very soon. You are obviously listening to what your body is saying, as you seem very connected with it.

Will your dh be drinking? If so, it might be worth asking him to stop.

Good luck xx

stockingfiller · 21/12/2007 19:29

ohh exciting!

would let your dp enjoy his work do and ring him and mw if you dont feel better after something to eat a drink and perhaps a nap!

good tip about dp's alcohol consumption. Don't want him falling asleep in the birth bath and becoming a liablity! Thanks!

either way, enjoy how you are feeling, it sounds lovely !

and tell your DH not to drink too much !

Wallace · 21/12/2007 19:36

Sounds promising!

Lukesmammy · 21/12/2007 20:38

I felt really weird and spacey the day before I went into labour with my son - it felt like I was so dreamy and contented with everything. It was winter and even though it was freezing I remember looking out of the window and thinking how lovely everything looked and really appreciating how beautiful the trees looked with no leaves - barmy or what??!! I am so not like that in real life!

Sounds like it could be happening - rest as much as you can!

ProjectIcarus · 21/12/2007 20:58

aha - compulsive baking - you are so pre-labour.

The day before I went into labour with dd1 I scoured all my pans. Inside and out handles the lot. Did all the ironing too.

Wallace · 22/12/2007 08:00

oooh, she didn't post again. Ezciting!

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland · 22/12/2007 08:13

Eek! How exciting. Day of my labour I felt odd, very wet 'down there' but not waters - just subtle changes in myself so fingers crossed you are possibly already holding your bundle of joy?!?!?!?!

aGalChangedHerName · 22/12/2007 08:49

Yup have had 4 dc and felt slightly high/hysterical with all of them. The body was obviously telling the mind big things were gonna happen.

Good luck and hope all goes well!!
