DH and I are both absolutely shitting ourselves. The surgery is not the main thing that’s freaking us out - it’s suddenly having a baby! I know that’s stupid because it’s not like it’s a surprise, we’ve had 9 months to get used to it fgs! I think we’re mostly worrying about the responsibility and feel completely out of our depth. Please tell me having babies is wonderful and makes up for all the worries - I’ve read too many horror stories on here and elsewhere to think straight now!

How are the new mum Lucy and her baby doing?

LucyOrli · 16/12/2021 09:50

Hi everyone! The c-section itself was very unpleasant but the staff were great and made it as good as it could be. We now have a beautiful 8lb 11 baby boy and we’re completely in love! Bonding in the hospital was hard but so much better now we’re home! Thank you all so much for your support, wonderful people! Xx

Congratulations! Sorry your C-section wasn't pleasant, I hope that's something you're ok with mentally.

Bonding can take time , go easy on yourself. Glad to hear you're all home and getting on ok Thanks

Jjjayfee · 19/12/2021 19:01

Congratulations. Wonderful to know you have a lovely baby boy

sarah13xx · 23/12/2021 00:06

Aww congratulations 😊 I was absolutely s*ing myself the night before mine, I think just before I was about to be called in I’d mentally gone way beyond fear and had settled in a place where I’d just accepted I was about to die and that was the end of it 😂 obviously here I am, not dead, so it can’t have gone that bad.

Also heard that having a baby to look after was just dreadful. Heard you didn’t get a wink of sleep and the whole thing just sounded miserable, so much so I wasn’t going to bother having kids. Luckily I talked myself into it and omg it’s amazing! I’ve had the complete opposite experience to all the horror stories. The first 6 weeks were difficult trying to heal from surgery and get up twice during the night but from 6 weeks he slept all night and from 10 weeks he slept 12/13 hours a night. He’s 4 and a half months now and I’m more well-rested than I’ve ever been in my life 😂 we get up at 8.30 and I don’t have to rush about every morning going to work. Life is so much slower but I just can’t say enough how great it’s been. I am very very lucky that has been my experience though and I wish everyone got a little sleeper like mine 😂

Good luck x You Will be fine. An elderly relative said to me when I was freaking out just like you, yes you are a first time mum but the baby has never had a mum before so you can learn together. It will be the start of a wonderful adventure together and you have lots of people rooting for you and happy to help if you ask. I held those words close and they really helped.
