i know it sounds awfully selfish but is there any chance if i spoke to my midwife they'd consider induction around my due date (not necessarily earlier want my baby to be healthy!!) but with my first he was 9lb (at 40 weeks) and i tore upwards which really effected my mental health as it was so painful, i'm really worried about going overdue with this one. he isn't measuring overly big on my chart but i had a private scan and he's about the same as his brother at the same stage. tia Smile

Absolutely. You can tell your MW how you're feeling and ask her Smile

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent thankyou i'm sure she won't even consider it but it's worth an ask i suppose

I think recent NICE guidelines have changed for this exact reason as people are generally having bigger babies. I think it's going to or has gone to 40 weeks rather than 41 but read up on it and discuss with midwife. It's also when they can physically fit you into them schedule at the hospital. There's a baby boom atm.

@NCAFGS i will have a look into it, she's not overly concerned as my bump is "normal" like it was with my son but it's just personal, god help me if i had gone over with him! he would've been nearly 10lb! Blush

I'm being induced tomorrow and my 'due date' is Thursday. Baby is 95th centile and weighed 8lb15 on Friday so want to induce for that reason, amongst one or two others.
I would definitely ask if there is a chance for induction as long as you present your case well, and consider risks etc they should not say no

Pretty sure that the NICE guidelines say not to induce labour purely on the basis that the foetus is expected to be big. So if your trust follow the guidelines, they won't induce you just on the basis (in the absence of other risk factorsl like GD or whatever). However, I frequently see/hear about this happening anyway so it looks like a lot of trusts don't follow the guidance, so if it's what you want it might be worth asking.
