Where to give birth when living in Brentwood Essex

Hi all,

My husband and I are moving to Brentwood Essex and currently looking for advice/ recommendation on the best hospital to give birth in closeby? We are classified as a low risk pregnancy so wondering if anyone can please recommend a maternity service in the area for both midwife visits prior to birth and for labour ?

Keen to hear what other experiences and recommendations are on this subject.

thanks!

@V103 I've name changed but I live in Brentwood. I'd recommend either Queen's Romford or Broomfield in Chelmsford. I believe both are good in their maternity services.

I gave birth in Basildon in 2020 and the maternity services are currently 'inadequate' and my experience was terrible.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant and chose Basildon. I have friends and family who have recently given birth there and only spoke highly of the care they received. You can find good and bad stories of any hospital. I have heard mixed experiences for Queens, and good experiences at Broomfield. Basildon is 20 minutes closer to me which was definitely a factor in my decision. Wherever you choose, I'm sure it will be the right decision for you

@V103 I think that queen's is meant to be slightly better than Broomfield.

RE: Basildon again, they were fully inspected last June, receiving inadequate, and then inspected again on 18th September (I was in the post-natal ward then) and it was shown that very little improvement had been made in those 3 months. They are also being investigated because of their huge number of Caesarean sections. I had an emergency section and had a (preventable) pph. Entirely your decision of course, but I'd never go somewhere to give birth again where there are concerns for the safety of women and the babies born as we speak.

I would say broomfield but I might be bias as it's my local hospital and never had an issue. There is a midwife led unit in braintree for low risk pregnancies that my friend said was really good

Broomfield were great for my pregnancy and my sister had a great experience with them last year. My friend is also a midwife there so I'm biased haha
