From what I recall (not much, too long ago!) the flow does vary as time goes on. Def had brighter red bits occasionally.

(What's RPOC though? Too techy for me )

Well (much more TMI here prob) when I had horrendous heavy periods - not post-partum - I used to get big squidgy livery bits.

It's still well within normal time boundaries, isn't it? If you have no pain and no extreme loss it's OK?

fawkeoff · 09/10/2007 00:03

i had this when i had dd....are you suffering pain as well?? you could need antibiotics

fawkeoff · 09/10/2007 00:05

sorry if TMI, but my flow didnt even stop when i was in the bath....it freaked me out and i will say no more

pneumalifenewname · 09/10/2007 00:06

yes, was delightful! I was quite shocked tbh but it was definitely an early sign that things were not good. I can't believe the nurse just scooped it up off the floor and then they discharged me later that day.

I think £2 is fine but if we're talking a fiver's worth of blood get it checked out, to be safe

BracingAir · 09/10/2007 00:06

sil had a big clot. i dont know how big as she didnt give me tmi!

Anyway, went to hospital to check it out and she had retained placenta.

what is rpoc?

Desiderata · 09/10/2007 00:08

Oooh, yes, Sparkly. Three days after having ds, I was in the shower, and something the size of my liver fell out.

In fact, I thought it was my liver, but on closer inspection, it appeared to be too healthy

sparklygothkat · 09/10/2007 00:09

2 weeks since birth. no pain, apart from the reaction to my pads

sparklygothkat · 09/10/2007 00:10

fawkeoff · 09/10/2007 00:11

why dont you just ring the midwives up in the morning and ask them if you need to take further action on it hun x

sparklygothkat · 09/10/2007 00:13

I have the mw coming tomorrow, will ask her, sorry for lack of capitals, callum is on my shoulder, not giving up his wind

OP posts:
fawkeoff · 09/10/2007 00:14

awww i have followed the situation from a distance, how is he doing?

pneumalifenewname · 09/10/2007 00:15

Do you feel hot? Tired? Take your temp at least that will give you some info as to infection likelihood. If a big lump of gunk has come out then that might be it.

Just workign out dates now for me....mc was on 12th dec and retained products remained until 24th dec so that's nearly as long as you isn't it. (between delivery and now i mean)

sparklygothkat · 09/10/2007 00:22

he is ok, i think he has a bit of cold so is struggling to feed for long tonight.
newlife, i feel fine, will keep an eye on myself tho, just in case

ask the midwife for some saline drops when she visits tomorrow

izyboy · 09/10/2007 09:46

Sparkly, I was told that if you have been sitting down alot (e.g to BF) you might find that the blood flow is not as fast and therefore tends to pool and congeal - hence the livery bits. I take it that your temperature is ok?

This is what I was told by my M.W. Yours will put your mind at rest over the issue I am sure.

One day after giving birth and still in hospital, I passed a clot the size of my baby's head. I got to the bathroom as quickly as I could as I had felt that I had passed something odd. When I got there, I pulled down my pyjama pants and the clot fell down them. It was pretty gross. I pressed the emergency button to call a midwife. Was assured that all was well. Very scary experience.
