What to wear in the hospital after delivery?

You'd think I'd remember this, having had two children before, but for some reason I'm dithering!

When I had my DC I had vaginal deliveries, and just bought a couple of bigger sized nighties from Primark to wear. I bled all over them so it was fine to just throw them away.

This time I'm really determined to make breastfeeding a success, so I'd rather have either a nightie than buttons down the front, or pyjamas so I can just lift the top up.

For some reason I've got this panic in my head about what if I have a C section? No reason for me to think this but there you go! Won't the waistband of pyjamas be really sore? Or will it not matter because the incision will be low?

I think I'm having a crazy pregnant lady overthinking moment!!

Maternity leggings and pyjamas with a high, wide and very soft waistband!

I had nice black cotton button down nighties. During the day I wore maternity leggings that went way above my incision.

Leggings and a t shirt or jersey pj's, I took my maternity ones.

That said if it's your 3rd and assuming straight forward delivery you may have an option to discharge straight from the delivery suite, with the covid restrictions I would be tempted to if it were me

I wore comfy stretchy pants and a vest top in hospital post birth! The pants came over my hips as well just incase I needed to have an emergency c section!
I felt more human and ready once I was dressed instead of 'in patient' mode!

I had a Primark nighty with a few buttons down the front (not fully button down but enough to make boob access easier) a few sizes too big. It was good for tucking DS inside! I still wear it now 😂

I went home in some stretchy yoga style trousers with a nice soft, wide waistband and a vest top. I had a c section and was perfectly comfy.

I wore big pants and leggings in the next size up after my section. The incision is really low down, just at the top of your pubes, my pants and leggings were so high waisted that even Simon Cowell would think they were excessively high.
I liked the leggings cos they were black and I felt like the held in my massive maternity pad a bit more securely. But the first 24hrs I just wore a vest top and pants. I gave no fucks.

I wore this breastfeeding nighty from Amazon. It was perfect.

I just wore the hospital gowns after my sections, but I was in for less than 24 hours after my 3rd last week. Just put on my dressing gown over the top to go home, couldn’t be arsed to get changed until I got home.

I get Shock looks when I tell people that, everyone I know seems to take a coming home out fit. After my sections I couldn’t even bend to put pants on without help, let alone get dressed, I don’t know how women do it!

Nursing bra and pants! Too bloody warm for any actual clothes🤣

Achilleus · 29/08/2020 17:20

Thank you, I hadn't even thought of the maternity leggings I'm currently living my whole existence in!

I seriously hope I can discharge from delivery, that would be heaven. I managed to go home 3 hours after DD was born so provided all is well I'll be pushing for that! I hadn't thought of the COVID element so looks like it'll be in my favour!

I've had two sections (and am a fortnight away from my third!) and I've only ever worn the hospital gowns they put you in until the next day; It's much easier if you've got a catheter in.

Once that's out I've worn pj bottoms and one of those nursing vests with the secret support.

Going home 'outfit' will either be maternity leggings and a long top or a maxi dress (if September suddenly warms up again!)

Bramblecrumble · 30/08/2020 20:13

Good luck with breastfeeding! Lots of options out there, but I did wear stretchy maternity pj bottoms for a while after birth. No c section but waistband really high so if I did wouldn't have been an issue. I did ok breastfeeding but to be honest early days I was topless for it.

Bramblecrumble · 30/08/2020 20:13

It was hot too!

Bramblecrumble · 30/08/2020 20:13

PJ's from Matalan

Sexnotgender · 30/08/2020 20:14

Flip flops might be handy too, my feet were really swollen after my last baby 🥴

BikeTyson · 30/08/2020 20:15

Postnatal wards are so, so hot. I wore a vest top, leggings and big pants.
