Am I being a idiot? Am I in labour?

Ive been awake on and off since around midnight. Pretty regular braxton hicks. I say braxton hicks as I'm not in pain just a little uncomfy. Managed to sleep a little, woke mainly with back ache or needing to move roughly hourly. They are still coming. Tried walking in night, changing sides/position etc. Weeing. Drinking. No changes.

I timed them in the night and they were roughly around a minute long and 5mins apart.
No other signs of labour.

I wouldn't worry but I'm due for.c-section so not meant to go into labour. 4th child but never had labour so completely clueless 😂 should I be checked over? I.can guarantee they stop as soon as I go in 🤦‍♀️

I'm just timing them again now to see if they are still actually regular.

Could be. How pregnant are you?

em90792 · 23/06/2020 07:00

37 +4 so a little early. My waters went with 3rd child 10 days early but no contractions so have absolutely no idea what early labour would feel like.

Sounds possibly like labour. Especially the backache.

BikeRunSki · 23/06/2020 07:03

At 37+4, you are well in the realms of full term. It does very much sounds like my labour with ds (at 36+5).

GlassHouseYouGlassHouse · 23/06/2020 07:04

That's how it started for me - LO born 4 hours after we arrived at the hospital. Might be worth going in to be checked.

Gin4thewin · 23/06/2020 07:06

I started with low bh pain for a week that gradually increased and went to full blown labour with walking and s labour ball. Sounds like you're starting off x good luck

Morechocmorechoc · 23/06/2020 07:07

Could well be. Personally I knew because my contractions starting hurting a lot very quickly after starting

em90792 · 23/06/2020 07:11

MoreChoc, that's what I was waiting for all night. To see an increase in intensity but so.far its stayed the same! I'm going to try a little stroll to see if moving stops them and if not I think I'll.call and explain! Just feel silly if just BH!

Sounds EXACTLY how mine went with DC2 & 3 at the same gestation. Definitely get checked.

I went in, they put me on the monitor for a while & then prepped me for surgery after that. Good luck OP! Xx

Peasypasta67 · 23/06/2020 07:25

I had to go into hospital for more eclampsia monitoring and they hooked me up to all the machines and said you're in labor. I said I dont think so. I've just got a bit of backache and a few twinges but who doesnt heavily pregnant. They said we can see every contraction on that screen. They checked and I was 4cm dilated. 'Proper' contractions didn't start until right at the end after they burst my waters. Good luck!

em90792 · 23/06/2020 08:43

@Peasypasta67 ah so you wernt in pain etc? I just feel like it should be more obvious 🙈 I'm currently timing them and going to phone in if pattern remains the same!

I was uncomfortable really that was it. I was so hot and bored in the ward so after being told I was 4cm I asked if we could go for a walk (theres a really nice garden at the hospital) and i was absolutely fine doing it. This isnt a brag at all - I'm just saying it's totally possible you might not 'know'. Once I was dilated enough they broke my waters and I threw up with every contraction I was in so much pain. Not brave at all! With my second I think I must have been in labour all day as I just felt 'off it'. But looked after my 3 year old, tidied and vacuumed just a normal day. Woke up to my waters going at midnight. And the heavy contractions were so thick and fast i was at the hospital within an hour 6cm dilated. So there must be people who just dont really feel the majority of it.

em90792 · 23/06/2020 18:33

Well after hours and hours I decided to phone and they stopped 🤨 not sure what happened. I've been told they apparently should hurt and to only call if regular and they hurt. We shall see if they kick ba k up again! X

Thanks for the update OP, hopefully not too much longer xx

Sounds like my labour... to me I was just a bit uncomfortable, the contractions didn’t intensify and stopped after about 16 hours... I went for an induction at the hospital a few hours after the contractions had stopped and when they hooked me up to a monitor they could see I was having regular and strong contractions even though I couldn’t feel anything and in examining me I was 10cm and she could feel the head. I was wheeled straight to delivery and my son was born 30 mins later! Not everyone experiencing labour pains the same way, I wish I had of listened to my body and not to the midwife on the phone who kept telling me that “because I can talk I’m not in established labour and go and chill out”.

Listen to your body!! Good luck... you will do fab!!
